***Chapter Eight:The  First Day***

[Angelina]

Waking up this morning had me feeling nervous and excited at the same time. Today was Jacob's first day at work. And I knew that he had a lot to drink last night. I really don't know why, but I couldn't do anything about it. I hope he's alright. Why am I thinking about him?

Because you like him. I shook my head to clear my mind from that thought. I can't be fantasizing about a guy who is taken; especially, with my cousin. I sighed then pushing myself to get out of bed to get ready for the day. I hopped out of the shower and headed for my closet. I am grateful that I didn't have to wear a uniform at my family's bakery.

I picked out a dark beige floral sundress and slipped on a cream lace cardigan and a pair of beige flats. I let my long, blonde hair to air dry and just pushed it back with a white head band with a little bow on it. I decided to apply a little powder on my face, some mascara and pink tinted Chap stick. I just can't do lipgloss, my hair would stick to my lips and I'd feel all gross and sticky.

I looked over my appearance once more before grabbing my purse and keys then headed for the shop.

I parked my car at the back of the shop and opened the building with my keys. We didn't open until in a few more hours, so it gave me time to relax and get everything ready.

"Morning sweetie!" I smiled at my grandmother whom just walked in. "Good morning Grammy!" I gave her a hug and a kiss on the cheek. Grams smiled then headed for her office upstairs. Hannah walked into the shop with a mischievous grin on her face. I narrowed my eyes and crossing my arms, to challenge my best friend.

"What are you up to?" I asked her suspiciously. She just shrugged and gave me an innocent smile. "Nothing," she replied sweetly.

"Uh huh," I stated not believing her. I guess I just have to keep my eye on my crazy best friend. I chuckled to myself, amused for some reason.

"So...when is Jacob going to be here? For his training," I raised an eyebrow, questioning why she was suddenly interested in Jacob. Realization hit me, Jacob was training today and by the way he partied last night; he was not going to be in a mood for work. I wonder if he is even going to be here.

"Hannah, whatever you're planning don't do anything-," I was interrupted by the bell ringing. "Hey, I'm sorry I'm late!" I turned towards the door to see Jacob, disheveled. I was about to say something, but Hannah beat me to it.

"Well, that's strike one!" I glared at my best friend whom was smirking arrogantly. She just shrugged at me then headed into the kitchen. "It's alright. We still have half an hour until we open. I'll show you what to do," I offered him a smile which he nodded thankfully. He looks like he was in pain. Hangover, maybe? He did drink a lot at the club last night.

"Okay, we are going to open soon. Are you ready for this?" I asked Jacob. He nodded as he put the apron around his waist. He wore a simple black v-neck that accentuated his fit body. "Yeah, ready as I'll ever be," he smiled at me, but it didn't reach his eyes. Actually, it seem like he didn't even want to look at me. Why is that? Anxiety overwhelmed me--confusion and questions clouding my mind. I guess I might've dazed off when Jacob looked at me with concern.

"Are you okay, Angelina?" Jacob asked, walking towards me but stopped himself. "Yeah, I'm alright," I nodded, hurt from his hesitation. This is ridiculous! I shouldn't let him get to me! "Alright, let's get this day started and over with." I muttered, turning my back and walking towards the doorway to turn the sign over. "Alright, Lane! You're on cleaning duty as of right now!" I turned towards Hannah whom was holding a mop and a bucket with a mischievous grin on her face. I sighed, ready for this day to be over with.

"Why am I on cleaning duty again?" Jacob asked. I stood behind the cash register as I rang up the customers in front of me. Hannah smiles sweetly as she stares at Jacob. "Because, there are a lot of dirty tables and a lot of dishes in the kitchen," she stated happily, enjoying the torture that she's putting Jacob through. "Angel! Make that brat stop and take me off of cleaning duty, please!" I had to stifle a laugh, but it was getting harder to keep my composure with the expression that was on his cute face as he pleaded.

After dealing with the last customer whom was also amused by the situation. I waved goodbye and offered a smile. I walked over to Jacob and waited as he finished sweeping one side of the shop. "I think the front is clean enough. Time for you to go on lunch," I took the broom and the dustpan from him and gave him a smile. "Aren't you going on your lunch too?" he asked with confusion written on his face. I chuckled and smiled up at him. "I usually just eat and work at the same time, while Hannah bakes in the back," I replied. "Okay...I'm going to get food then. What would you like to eat?" I looked at Jacob, surprised to hear him offer to get me food. "Um...I don't know. Surprise me," I smiled at him appreciating his offer. "Alright!" Jacob sent a grin my way as he waved goodbye and walked through the doors.

My stomach fluttered; sending tingles all the way to my heart. I need to get myself in control, or everyone will get hurt. I sighed as I started to clean up the display trays and grab fresh cupcakes. "Lina? Are you alright?" I jumped as Hannah sneaked up behind me. I laughed while nodding my head, "yeah, I'm alright," I assured her. "Okay, if you say so," she nodded, still looking unconvinced. "So, what's the next thing on the list to make Jacob's first day horrible?" I shook my head but couldn't stop myself from smiling.

"I'm back!" A smile formed on my lips as Jacob walked through the shop doors. He hasn't been gone long at all, so I didn't know what had gotten over me. It was like I was actually anticipating his return. "I had to bring the guys though," I stared at him in question at his sudden change of mood. "Why do you look sad?" I couldn't help but laugh at his facial expression. He stared at me, hurt, which looked very comical. "Angelina!" Greg bursts through the door and embraced me in a tight hug. I was shocked by the excessive display of affection. Just something I wasn't used to. I stepped back and gave Greg a polite smile. His eyes were wide once he realized what he had done making blush heavily. I couldn't help but laughing.

"Sorry about that. I didn't know what came over me," he apologized quietly, clearly embarrassed that he was caught by the guys. I shook my head and laughed gently. "It's alright," I laughed once more. Hannah stepped out from the kitchen with glass cleaner and a rag. "Jacob, you're back! Here, clean the windows!" Hannah smirked evilly. She then noticed Peter whom was grinning at her. She squeaked and ran into Peter's embrace. "Hey babe," Peter breathed out, as he was getting crushed my Hannah. I giggled as she hugged the life out of the poor boy.

"Okay, enough! You're squishing my friend!" Jacob cried out, not happy as he held the cleaning supplies. "Shut up, Lane!" Hannah spat out, sticking her tongue out at him then returning her gaze on Peter.

"Anyways, what are you all doing here?" I asked the guys with a smile. "They wanted to come visit, something about supporting me on my first day. I think they just want the cupcakes," Jacob teased, earning a laugh from each of the boys. "Well, lucky for you guys I just baked some fresh batch of cupcakes!" Hannah chirped proudly. "Yes!" the boys all screamed simultaneously. I shook my head as I got a booth ready for the group of rowdy boys. "Alright, sit here and we'll bring them out," I chirped.

"I'll help you," Jacob inquired. I nodded and made our way towards the kitchen. "I got you lunch," Jacob told me. I looked up at him, surprised written on my face. "You didn't have to do that," I inquired. He just smiled down at me and pinched my cheeks. "I wanted to," he stated in a final tone. "Thank you," I smiled at him gratefully. "You're welcome Angel," he replied nonchalantly while taking the tray of cupcakes and making his way back to the guys. I still can't get over him calling me Angel. The nickname he first gave me. That simple name is enough to make my heart beat and lose control. I took a deep breath and joined the others.

I just hope I don't get hurt in the process of all of this...
