For once, Rumblepurr sat at his desk, flipped open the notepad, opened the gradually filling volume, and filled his pen. The storm clouds of winter and the horrors they had endured were gone. At least for now, his mind amended. Like the morning he had just witnessed, the sky was blue, the sun was bright, the field was growing green and flowers started to bloom. For once, Peace lay over the Yard, and all the wonderful Jellicle lives that inhabited its nooks and crannies.

In the blankets, Altaica stretched and Rumblepurr took a bit of time to look at her. He enjoyed the contours of her body as she extended arms and legs, arched the torso, and turned this way and that. And then, she turned to face him with a definite smile on her face and a gleam in her eyes, her tail draped over her thighs.

“Well? Do you like what you see, or see what you like?”

“You did all that on purpose?”

“I kinda wanted a repeat of what you did to me last night.”

He watched her tongue pass over her lower teeth and then across full lips. Her paw patted the blanket next to her, and he realized then that he had been holding his breath. His heart was beating faster and he suddenly lost interest in the notepad. The histories would keep. Altaica’s mood would not…

He slid next to her and lightly covered them both with the blanket. Her arms drew him slightly over her and met his kiss. For a change, she let his paw wander the length of her body, marveling in the way his caress made her feel. Her purr came forth soft and trilling as he explored the various hills and valleys. She could tell that he was in no hurry this morning, his paws lingered and tantalized. When his paw smoothed over her belly fur and went lower, she mewed.

      “Damn you, Rumble…”

He was playing with her! Altaica used her leverage and pulled Rumblepurr over her on onto his back, with her now straddling him. Her need made her join with him almost ruthlessly, and it was only a short time before she lay still above him, with his arms holding her. Rumpus! She never had strong feelings like this before, and she transferred those feeling into kisses around his throat and chin, nipping him as she went. She gasped as his paws ran down her back and brushed over the base of her tail. And she felt him join her a second time.

As they made love, she realized why she felt the way she did, and possibly how she was affecting her Mate. Altaica recognized the feeling now as she began to rise toward completion. After she danced her Courtship Dance, Rumble was there. They mated not too long afterward, and the feeling was there. That night! She was feeling that night all over again! The finish was almost too intense. Almost too much for everything…

      “Hey! Hey, you two!”

Rumblepurr’s eyes opened. He was still on his back with a tabby Queen still on top of him. As he looked up, he saw a Silver Tabby trying hard to contain a smile, and not coming close to succeeding. Rumble was glad he had covered them both with a blanket. Not that it helped much in this situation…

“I thought you two killed each other,” Munkustrap chuckled.

“If we did, this is not the version of the Heavyside Layer I had thought to find.”

The Silver Tabby sat back on the desk as Rumblepurr gently moved Altaica off of him. She murmured pleasantly, and Rumblepurr kissed her softly before he got up. Munkustrap held out the green vest the Writer Cat usually wore, and waited while the White Tiger buttoned it.

      “What brings you here, Leader?”

“Tonight will be special, Chronicler.” He stopped and looked toward his cousin. “Maybe we should go outside and let Alta sleep.”
