We were back in Sydney again, our somehow 'first tour' was over since two weeks and it's been nearly two months since Ashton and I were at Rebekka's in Princeton.
As expected, we did not hear from each other since then. I am not quite sure if Ashton still has her phone number but I honestly don't care. She's not the girl I thought she was. I know that I only knew her for nearly one day and though I thought she would be different. But honestly she seemed like everyone else. She treated me like some shit since John mentioned our fame and that annoys me.
I remember it like it was yesterday and not two months ago, as I flung open the door of the greyish, somehow beautiful house and stepped outside, waiting for Ashton to follow. Damn, I was so pissed at her. Guess, I still am and I'm wondering why I care so much about it.
I heard Ashton's voice from the inside of the house: ''I'm so sorry guys. I don't know what's wrong with him. Er... thanks for the dinner again.. uhm.. yeah. Guess I should go now''
I hate the fact that he actually had to defend himself because of me but right in that moment I couldn't care less. I just walked away from that annoying house with that annoying girl and her annoying boyfriend in this freaking annoying town. I just wanted to leave and if Ashton had not moved his ass, this would have been his problem. I sure as hell would not have stayed any longer in that place.
''I'll go for a walk with Molly'', I shouted into the living room before I grabbed the leash and whistled for my dog.
The weather was great as always in Australia and I put on my sunglasses. Shall I pass at Calum's? I sigh and pull at Molly's leash. ''Come on, girl. Let's see what Cal's up to''
I passed some houses and finally I arrived at Calum's. I knocked on his front door and waited until his mum opend it.
''Uhm. Hi, Mrs. Hood.. Is Calum at home?'', I tug at my hair and Molly sat down at the porch. I know she doesn't like it when I don't call her by her actual name but I feel uncomfortbale calling her Joy, that's why I still say Mrs. Hood.
''Hello, Luke! It's nice to see you! You too, girl'', she stooped down to Molly. ''I guess Calum and Ashton are in Calum's room. Just get in''
Ashton? Great.
Mrs. Hood stepped to the side, so I could enter and I gave her a light smile while pulling Molly upstairs to Calum's room. I entered without knocking and Ashton and Calum, both lifted their heads to look at me.
''Molly!!!'', Calum stood to his feet and Molly barked at him cheerfully. Ashton's gaze was back to the television again.
''Well, it's nice to see you too, Cal'', I chuckled.
He just patted at my shoulder and made a move that should say something like 'Sit down', I guess. Anyway, it's what I did.
''What'cha doing here?'', Calum asked.
''I actually don't know. Just wanted to see what you're up to. Thought we could maybe play some FIFA or go skateboarding, whatever''
''Well, we're watching TV as you can see'', Ashton also dared to speak. Molly barked and I giggled.
''Yeah, obviously'', I stroked the dog and tried to ignore Ashton's comment. ''What will you guys do the rest of the day? What about we'll go to the beach or something? I mean, when you're finished watching..'', I looked up to the screen with a grin. ''..whatever this is''
''It's something about the Princeton University, I guess'', Calum sounded uninterested and plopped down on his bed. I bet the colour on my face faded away. So did my grin.
''It is'', Ashton looked me in the eye and an evil smile was on his face.''Why are you so interested in Princeton, lately?'', I finally ask the question I held in for too long and tried to keep my voice calm.
Ashton shrugged and grinned at me: ''Dunno.. the Princeton people are nice, aren't they?''
''Uhm.. yeah'' Molly seemed to notice that I felt uncomfortable because she growled next to me.
''Guys? What's going on?'', Calum looked back and forth between Ashton and I in confusion.
''Nothin'', I blurted out and shot a warning glare at Ashton. He just leaned back in the chair.
I knew Calum didn't believe but I didn't want him to know though, so I hoped Ashton would keep his mouth shut, just for once.
''Well'', Ashton began to destroy my hopes. ''Let's say Luke and I made some interesting contacts in Princeton two months ago'' He grinned again and I suddenly felt like punching his goddamn face.
''You did?'', Calum sounded pretty surprised about that.
''Yeah, kind of'', I shrugged.
''Well, I don't think Rebekka and John want to see us ever again, though. A very special thanks to Mr Luke Hemmings for that one!'', I clenched my fists. I hate to hear her name, especially when the words come out of Ashton's mouth.
"Well Ashton you might think you know her and you might think that she is cute and different than the others but guess what? She's not! She's not any more different than all the others. She treats us "rich guys" like every other goddamn person treats us out there! And that sucks Ash and we don't need to keep in touch with someone who is exactly like everyone else, don't you think so? We could step out of this house and walk less than 5 feet and we would find a girl that is just like her. Wrong and selfish and pathetic!", my voice got deeper and louder with every word and Calum's eyes got wider and wider. Ashton's smile faded a bit as he began to speak: "Well, Luke! Y'know... you don't know her either!"
That catched me off-guard. I know that he was right. Well kind of. I didn't know her and maybe I just overreacted. But I usually don't overreact because I usually don't even react to anything in a visible way at all.
"Well.. but. .", I fumbled with the right words.
"You know it's true, Luke", he was fast to grin at me again.
Just as I was about to respond the monotone voice in the television interrupted us: "Lately there were a lot of raids in Princeton, some of them even ended with violence and death. Just a week ago the tiny Starbucks coffee shop got a victim. The police did not give any information about people being murdered yet. ."
Ashton's mouth formed a little o and his eyes met mine. My mouth spoke again before my mind could stop it:
"We have to find her!"„What do you mean with 'We have to find her'? You mean like taking the next flight to America and just catch her? Oh and if we are ever there, we can indeed go to Starbucks and visit John, the lovely boy! Right? Oh no, I forgot, you can’t stand him because –“
I shot Ashton a warning gaze and he trailed off immediately.
“Because?” Calum asked but he shook his head seconds later to say that it does not matter. Some minutes later, Calum called Michael to come over because we had some ‘band trouble’ and he came over to Cal’s.
‘’Yeah we possibly could go to America. I mean like, why not? Luke can search his girl and-‘’, Michael started after Calum and Ashton told him what the ‘band trouble’ is about but I interrupted:
‘’She’s not my girl’’
‘’Whatever’’, he rolled his eyes. ‘’And the three of us’’, his hand waved back and forth between Calum, Ashton and himself. ‘’We can just chill out and see what the Americans think of 5SOS, this could be some good PR, y’know? Like a good relationship to our fans or something like that’’
This was typical. Michael is always like that. It’s not like he does not care about the fans! To be honest, right after Ashton, he’s the one of the band that cares the most about them and likes to interact with them and stuff like that but he always takes care of how society or rather the press might think about our actions. It can get kind of annoying sometimes but it’s actually a good thing. Without Michael, 5SOS would never be as famous and successful as it is now, so I guess I should be pleased about his property.Especially back then I was pleased that Michael came over, because he’s the reason why we were sitting in that plane to America. It wasn't first class as usual, because we bought the tickets that short that it would have caused too much time and trouble to buy first class tickets. Well I was sitting in between an old lady that was leaning against the window, snorting silently while sleeping and a toddler that annoyed me by slamming his feet against the seat infront of him all the time. If I would not have been so excited to see her again, I bet I would have punched him in the face. Well, probably not but at least would have been pissed off more. Instead I worried whether she was all right and if she would be pissed off when she sees me again. What would I even say if we meet? ‘Hi I saw a random report about Princeton and heard there were some raids lately so I wondered-‘
The toddler next to me interrupted my thoughts by slamming his elbow into my side. A weird sound between a gasp and a groan escaped my mouth but the kiddo couldn’t care less. He just scrabbled around with his hands in the air, singing some words that no one even understood. Keep calm, Luke, keep calm. Just a few more hours.(So guys, it took me sooooo long to update, again..
