We came to an old, slightly decrepit wall and I stood and waited for Alec to do something, tapping my foot lightly. I wasn't sure what to do so I ended up examining the wall that was in front of us, wondering why he hadn't done something already. When I looked over at him, his eyes were glued to his phone and I rolled my eyes slightly.
There was a change in expression as he called someone and I could see him get slowly more angry as the seconds ticked on. This was his other side, the one that most people saw; the badass who wasn't to be messed with. But I wasn't scared of him, far from it; I found it rather endearing that he had two completely different sides.
I desperately wanted to get to know him, I wanted to know who the real Alec was. And finally I had the chance. I would be around him all the time, and it seemed like we were getting on rather well at the minute. He liked to joke around, and that was something new that I had learnt about him already.
"Just open the damn portal, that's all I'm asking!" he said into his phone, sounding impatient and slightly angry. This complete change in emotion shocked me slightly and I could tell that Alec obviously wasn't in the mood for waiting.
Then it happened. A bright purple light glowed in front of us, blindingly me momentarily and it took a moment for my eyes to adjust to it. I marvelled at it for a split second, noting it's beauty, but I didn't have long before Alec grabbed my wrist and forced me to go first.
I didn't notice him coming in after me because everything around me was moving too fast. I closed my eyes, feeling my stomach churn for a split second. Falling to the ground, I cursed myself for not bending my knees. God I really was acting like an idiot on this day! I heard a thud behind me and I quickly got up, not wanting Alec to see that I had fallen to the floor.
Brushing the dirt off me, I watched as Alec started to walk towards what I could only describe as something that resembled an old church. There was a spire that seemed to reach the clouds and I looked at it in awe. I didn't ask him about why he suddenly seemed so pissed off and tired, mainly because I didn't want to aggravate him.
"Welcome to New York. It's a horribly mundane place," he spat and I had to stop myself from giggling at his sarcastic comment that was so scathing about the beautiful city around us.
"Thank you for taking me here," I replied and for a second he gave me a genuine smile, softening his demeanour slightly.
"You're... ummm...welcome I guess," he scratched the back of his head, and it was clear that he wasn't thanked very often.
"What is this place?" I asked as we began to walk towards the church in front of us and Alec just chuckled, obviously finding my lack of knowledge humorous.
"You'll see," and with that we found ourselves at the door, and I took a deep breath before walking inside.
