I finished working with the colts before loading them up. I was going on my way to Lubbock to meet with this lady. She told me to be there around lunch because their going to NFR from there.

I parked outside the fairgrounds at noon after driving two hours to Lubbock. A semi pulling a horse trailer pulled in. I got out seeing who was on the side. Cayla Melby Small.

She came up to me. "Hi I'm Cayla. Sorry I didn't introduce myself over the phone." She said shaking my hand. "It's fine by me. Would you like to see the boys?" I asked.

"Let's." She answered. "Now their sire is my best show horse. He's not a barrel racer but their dam is. Her show name was Wild Blizzard, because she loves the snow and looks like a blizzard when running." I said.

"Wait the Wild Blizzard?" She asked. "Yup. Injuries kept her down." I said putting the ramp down. "Their both a year as of a week ago and learn fast. They are saddle and bridle trained as asked." I said unloading the first.

He snorted wanting to run. "This one has his sire's feistiness. He's calm most of the time except after traveling when he wants to run." I said. She took his lead walking him around. He tried to trot instead pranced.

"Energetic I see." She said. "Yes. He is. This other one is calmer unless you get him excited then he's all energy like his dam." I told her. "I think he might be a better choice." She said. "Unless my husband wants a horse to himself."

She looked over at the trailer. I followed her gaze. A man was leaning against it. He then came over. "Which one?" She asked. "It's up to you." He said. "Their both by the same mare and stallion." She told him.

"I'd go with the fastest one." He said. I took the lead off the first one and held his halter. "Their also trained in send and return. I teach them that before their six months." I said letting him go. He ran quickly to their trailer. I whistled for the colt and he returned quickly.

I clipped the lead on him and released the other one. He ran around the trailer cutting it close to the edges. I whistled for him and he came quicker. "I'd have to say the second one." Cayla said.

I nodded. "The first one looks like he can stop faster than the second." Her husband said. "You can have both for the price of the first one." I said. They both agreed and I got a paycheck for them.

I closed the trailer up after switching their halters. They were happy with the colts and I was happy to give them homes and a little cash in my pocket. I got back in my truck as they loaded them up.

An empty trailer and six more colts to train. I got back to the ranch and unhitched my trailer parking it. I got started right away with the other six. My phone buzzed. 'Go up to my house and get the toolbox off the porch and bring it over to the barn. Riley'

I got in my truck and went up. I grabbed the toolbox and took it to the barn. He met me and grabbed it. "Thanks." He said before going back into the barn.

I went back to my house and continued working with the same six colts. Then brought all my horses in and closed the stables up.

I went into my house and got a hot shower before fixing something warm for supper. There was a knock at my door. I looked out the peephole. It was some guy I didn't know.

Then I saw Riley. I opened the door slightly. "Cole I told you she wouldn't." He said. "Ok so I wanted to meet the one showing the animals so what?" The guy named Cole said.

I quickly closed the door and ran back to the kitchen sliding across the counter. I stirred the stew before hearing the door open. "Don't get your hopes up." I heard Riley tell him. Before hearing the door closing. "Make sure to take your boots off." I yelled.

"I know." I heard Riley say back. I picked up my cup and took a sip. They entered the kitchen. I kept my cup hiding most of my face. "He won't bother you." Riley told me.

I lowered my cup and set it on the counter. Then moved away to stir what I was fixing. He knows I don't like strange guys. I kept quiet while Cole stood there.

I finished my food and put it on low. "How'd those colts sell?" Riley asked. "Sold both of them to Cayla Small and her husband Zac." I told him. "Wait Zac Small?" Cole asked. I nodded. "Hence the last name." I smarted off.

His phone dinged. "There's my parents wondering where I am." Cole said before walking out of the kitchen. "Still shy?" Riley asked. "No you know I don't like meeting new guys around my age." I told him.

"Didn't seem that way when you met Traven Long." He said. "Because he's at least twenty years older and has grown children probably." I said. "Yeah he's got two grown boys who are a year younger than you." He told me.

"Would you like something to eat?" I asked. "No thanks I'm going over to eat with my parents." He said. "Ok. It'll be in the fridge tomorrow." I told him as he left the kitchen. "I will be after it tomorrow then." He said as he pulled his boots on.

"It'll be there." I said as he left. I heard his truck fire up and went back to the kitchen. I ate supper before getting a shower and going to bed.
