I saddled one of the colts leading him around. He snorted as I led him around. He's going to take Caliber's place when he's old enough. And I'm going to show him.

After several minutes of just walking him I moved him into a trot. He moved quickly at my sudden urge for him to move faster. After a few minutes of that I brought him to a lope then a canter and called it a day with him.

As I was unsaddling him something fell causing him to jump. In his frenzy he shoved me knocking me against the concrete wall. I groaned and held my head while trying to keep my balance.

I finally was able to stand straight and untacked him then brushed him down. Once I was done I put him in his stall and gave him some water. Then went to the house.

I didn't even making to the front door before I blacked out.

6666 ranch Riley

"Hey Riley could you go ask Becky if we could borrow a horse?" My dad asked. "I guess." I answered. I got in my truck and drove over to her house. I stopped just short of the stable. There was something in the snow.

I got out and made my way over before hurrying over. I knelt down beside Becky trying to get her to wake. She didn't move. I finally picked her up and carried her inside.

Once in I quickly set her on the couch not caring about my booted feet. I started a fire trying to warm her up. After several minutes she started to wake.

Her hands held her head. "Becky. Becky what happened?" I asked. "One of the colts jumped and my head hit the concrete wall." She told me.

"Come on let's get you to the doctors office. If you hit your head that bad it's going to be bad." I said lifting her up. She groaned.

I set her in the truck and called my dad telling him what happened. "Get her checked out. I'll ask the Longs if they have an extra." Were his last words before he hung up.

I got to the hospital and helped her in. A nurse came up to me. "She hit her head hard. I found her blacked out in the snow between her house and stable." I said laying her on the bed.

She wheeled her back while I sat in the waiting room. Least she didn't get knocked out when she was riding in the pastures. After an hour or so someone came out and called her name.

"She did suffer a concussion. There's swelling in her skull and brain. It's been pressing on the veins in her eyes. She may be able to see after the swelling goes down but it's not likely.

"I'd hate to say that she'll be blind possibly the rest of her life. She did have to be put into a medical induced coma to help try to make most of the swelling go down." The nurse told me. I nodded. "Is it possible for me to see her?" I asked. She told me which room she was in.

I walked down the hall and into the room I was told. She had a heart and breathing monitor hooked up to her. Her sleeping form was calm and still. I pulled a chair up next to her and rubbed her hand.

Her hand flinched at my touch. I lifted it to my lips and kissed it. After several more minutes of staying there a nurse told me I had to leave unless I was immediate family.

I went to my parents house to let them know. My mom was the first. "How is she?" She asked. "She could be blind for the rest of her life." I told her.

"You'd have to help her out a lot if she returns blind." She told me. "I know. I just don't know how much she'd tolerate." I said. "She'll hopefully warm up to it. If she wants to do things on her own see if she wants a seeing eye animal. That would help you both. You wouldn't have to be her eyes the entire time she's awake." She said.

I nodded in agreement. I know Caliber would help her out but she's going to need a smaller animal that can go inside and outside.

I ate supper with them before going to her stables and putting the mares in and giving them hay and fresh water. I checked on the foal then went up to my house.

I got a quick shower before going to bed praying that she'd get her sight back and that she'd get better.
