A soft knock on the door woke me up, a constant thrumming in my dream that originated in reality. Rhythmic breathing fanned my face as I rested my heavy head on a hard chest. Reluctantly, I opened my eyes, but a shadow with fins stood in the doorway.
"I, uh... He, uh..." Did I really have to explain myself? No. It's not like Dick and I did anything. We just fell asleep.
Kaldur chuckled lightly. "Do not worry, (y/n). I will not say anything to the rest of the Team."
For some reason, I sighed in relief. "Thank you, Kaldur."
He nodded in acknowledgment. "Now, the reason for my arrival at such a private quarter. The Batman has declared today a free day, and we have decided to spend it on the beach. When you two are ready, you may join us." Once again, I thanked him with a smile, and he was on his way.
It took a few moments for my grogginess to dissipate, but when I finally comprehended what just happened, there was no going back. "Dick!" I shouted with glee, shaking him awake. His shaggy black hair draped over his forehead, and his long eyelashes casted shadows down his cheeks. He looked so peaceful.
Oh, well, I thought devilishly as he mumbled in his sleep. Time to disturb the peace.
I resorted to yelling, louder this time. "Dick!" He still wouldn't budge. Sighing, I leaned in to kiss his cheek, a silent apology for what I was about to do. "I'm sorry for this."
I shifted my balance of power and transferred the energy in my heart to my pointer finger, generating a slight electric current, but not enough to kill him. Drool dripped from the corner of his slightly separated lips, his cheeks squished between pillows, and I hesitantly poked his chest with my fingertip.
"Ow!" He yelled and bolted upright from the shock. "What was that for?"
"You weren't waking up," I stated in an obvious tone. "Just wanted to make sure you weren't dead."
I raised my eyebrow, and he glared at me as I smiled ever so innocently. His eyes darted for the door as the sound of footsteps receding registered in his head.
Note to self, I thought. He's slow in the morning. Use small words.
"Why is the door ajar?" He looked mortified, and I decided to play around with it.
"Batman walked in to congratulate me on my entry to the Team," I said proudly.
His eyes widened and his mouth dropped to the floor. "What? Batman walked in here? As we were sleeping?" He threw his head back on the pillows and stared up at the ceiling as if his life was over. "He's going to kill me. I'm not going to be alive anymore because Batman is going to kill me. I'm done for. I'm done."
Devastated. He was devastated. Is hanging out with me really that bad?
I hit him with a pillow. "Oh, relax. I'm messing with you. Okay? I'm sorry. Kaldur walked in. It was Kaldur. Geez."
His eyeballs returned to their normal size. "Oh, thank God! It was just Kaldur. Kaldur walked in. Great."
I hung my head and mumbled, "That's literally what I just said. So thanks for repeating that." He glanced up to make eye contact. "Don't worry, he said that he won't tell anyone. Now get up," I demanded, removing the sheets from above us. I shivered. I was so warm underneath those blankets.
"Where are we going?" Dick asked as he pulled the blankets back above his head and curled into a fetus position.
"The beach," I grinned. "Your mentor gave us a free day." That got his attention.
