As the teacher started handing back the latest algebra quiz, Adrien couldn't help but feel his stomach drop. He hadn't really had a chance to study for that quiz, and even if he would have, he still wouldn't have understood anything that was going on. Math was not his strong suit; it all just looked like a jumble of numbers and letters to him!
His quiz was dropped down in front of him with a nice red 'D-' scrawled across the top corner. "Oh no..." he mumbled, burying his face in his hands. "Dad's gonna kill me..."
"Whoa, Adrien, dude what happened?" Nino asked as he snuck a glance at his best friend's paper. "I know you're not that good at math but, dude..."
"I just don't get it, man..." Adrien tried to explain. The bell rang and Adrien heard the teacher call for him to stay back for a minute, causing several people to 'oooh' as they walked out. "Yes ma'am?" he asked as he approached her desk.
"I'm going to give you another chance with this quiz, since you are one of the most focused students in this class, alright?" she explained. Adrien breathed a sigh of relief. "But, I'm setting you up with a tutor so that you may pass this time, understood?"
"T-tutor?" he stuttered. He'd never had one; he'd always been the tutor, not the other way around!
"Yes, Marinette received a perfect score, so I asked her before class if it would be alright. So I suggest you go catch up with her and-"
Before she could finish her sentence, Adrien was out the door. He got to redo his test and spend time with his princess?! Perfect!
"Marinette!" he shouted when he finally spotted her. The girl turned around and waved as he struggled to stop and act smooth. "So, you're my tutor, huh?" he said with a smirk.
"Uh-huh, you can come over this afternoon and I'll see if I can help," Marinette said with a smile, making the blond's heart flutter.
Marinette was up in her room with Tikki as the two tried to clean up before Adrien got there. Just because she was (mostly, sort of, kind of) over her crush on Adrien didn't mean she'd taken the time to take all her pictures down. Once they were all down, save for the framed photo of her and Adrien she kept on her desk, she heard her parents call for her.
"Be right back, Tikki," Marinette said to the kwami. She came down from her room just in time to stop her parents from pulling out the baby pictures. "Mom! Dad!" she had to shout to make them put the album down. Adrien snickered and followed her up the stairs as she ushered him up quickly.
"Thanks again for doing this, Marinette," Adrien said once they were left alone.
"No problem," Marinette smile and plopped down on her chaise, "So where do we need to start?" she asked as she pulled her textbook into her lap.
"From the beginning?" Adrien suggested with an awkward laugh. "Algebra's not quite my thing..."
Marinette giggled and had him pull up a chair, moving herself so they could both see the textbook easier. "Alright let's start with the triangles since they're the easiest..."
"If you say so..."
"So the formula for area of a triangle is half times the base times the height," Marinette explained, scribbling down the formula. "And when we have a triangle with, say, a base of 5 inches and a height of 3 inches, how would you work that out?"
"Half times 5 times 3?" Adrien tried. Marinette nodded and wrote down the equation. She then asked what they do next. "Um...multiply 3 and 5 and then take half?"
"Not quite," Marinette said, shaking her head. Adrien let a groan and tossed his arms over his eyes. "Hey, hey, calm down..." Marinette rested a hand on his arm. "Just remember you go from left to right, and if that's the case, what do you do in this problem?"
