Tap, tap...
On my shoulder, I looked over and smiled at my ecstatic seven year old stepbrother Cooper.
"We're here, May! We're here!"
He cheered as he jumped in his car seat, despite being safely strapped in. I smiled at him and looked ahead, nodding softly.
"Mmhm, looks like it."
I mumbled sleepily, rubbing my eyes softly not to ruin my smudgy gothic liquid eyeliner. He had woken me up. My stepmom turned her head, looking back at us with a big smile spread across her face. Her red lipstick, complimented her dark brown hair.
"How do you like your new house guys?"
She asked, eager to hear our comments. My family are descendants from the Mackintosh Clan. They were based in the Scottish Highlands. I had done a bunch of research on them before we moved. We had a four rebel clans and it was really interesting.
"It's gorgeous."
I replied softly, I tugged at my messy orange and black hair gently. My hair was a naturalish orange with black tips at the end.
Honestly, I look like a total gothic sceney emo...
My little brother pouted and crossed his arms.
"I miss my friends..."
He mumbled, I smiled and patted his back.
"Don't worry you'll find new friends, buddy."
He pouted more and shrugged my hand off.
"I want my old friends..."
I stared at him for a moment and sighed, shaking my head.
"Okay... Fine..."
I murmured as I pushed the car door open. I hurried to the trunk of the car, my puffy crazy hair bounced. I grabbed my two bags and Cooper's Spiderman backpack. After my stepmom let him out of his booster seat, he grabbed a toy action figure of Thor that we called Car Thor then bolting towards the house, almost getting away but I grabbed his hood.
"Nope. Take your backpack."
I stated sternly, he groaned and took it throwing it over his shoulders as he jogged to the new house.
More like castle.
(in the picture box above)
I stood in front of the huge castle like home. It had water around it with the bridge leading to the opening of the huge home. Cooper tried to open one of the big doors but it was locked.
"I've got the key, kiddo."
My dad chuckled, I turned and smiled up at him. I stepped back to give him room to unlock the door. Cooper took my hand, I looked down at him with a small smile.
"Can we go in together?"
He asked eagerly, I laughed and nodded.
"Totally."
I stated back to him, he grinned a toothy grin and squeezed my hand hard. My dad hummed Aces High, an Iron Maiden song, as he unlocked the doors.
"Ready?"
I asked excitedly, looking down at my young brother.
"Ready!"
He cheered, throwing a fist over his head. As soon as the doors opened, we both ran in. My crazy orangey red and black hair bounced around my shoulders and chest. We looked wide eyed at the interior of the castle. It was dusty and musty but gorgeous. A smile spread across my pale cheeks.
"Oh my gosh! This place is so beautiful!"
I gushed and turned to see my dad with a cocky smirk.
"Well thanks, kid."
He said loud and clear, I smiled and Cooper giggles while gripping my hand tightly.
"Hey guys!"
My stepmom called to us as she hurried in.
"Good news! We're meeting the new neighbors tonight for dinner! Oh, and they have a son! He's around your age Coop!"
Cooper looked astonished, he released my hand.
"Another boy!"
He shouted happily, Bree, my stepmom, nodded and laughed.
"Mmhm, of course there are!"
She smiled widely, and gave my dad a look. My dad, taking the sign, sent my little brother upstairs to get a bag packed for a hang out with the new neighbor. Bree turned to me and held her hands carefully.
"Well, I asked and they don't have a kid your age."
She stated carefully, with an unamused look. I smiled and shook my head.
"Oh no, that's totally fine. You know how I am with new kids."
She nodded and looked at my dad then back at me.
"Alright well, we... Might go for a date night with the new family... But... Just us adults... Would you mind watching the kids?"
She asked carefully as if I was going to reject her proposition immediately. I smiled and shook my head, crossing my arms.
"No no, it's just fine!"
Both my father and stepmother smiled widely.
"Terrific! Do you wanna go check your clothes and makeup before we go?"
She asked, I nodded and hurried upstairs. I bolted past my brothers room with my two bags in hand. I peeked into each room until I finally found the room with boxes that had 'Mysie' written in black sharpie. I smiled and looked for the box that was labeled clothes. Once I found it, I dug through it and found my red and black striped tank top with outrageously wide armholes. I set it over my arm then grabbed my black leggings and black knee high platformed boots. I quickly got dressed and rummaged in my bag for my makeup. I retouched my liquid eyeliner and pale makeup. I smiled in my compact mirror.
"And perfect."
I snapped it shut just as my brother walked in.
"Hurry up!"
He whined, I sighed and set my compact mirror down on the mattress of my bed then hurried over to him. He took my hand as we ran down the old stairs. The sound of his tiny sneakers hitting the wood mixed with the noise of my small gothic platformed boots doing the same was practically rhythmic. Once we got down to our parents, we found that only my dad was down there.
"Where's Bree?"
I asked he smiled and shook his head.
"Getting ready."
He replied, I nodded and we waited for about two minutes until she came downstairs. She was in a bright red dress that ended at her knees with matching heels.
"You look pretty mom!"
Cooper cheered, Bree thanked him and we got in the car. The castle was a short trip away, only a few minutes. That small trip would lead to a huge journey...
