"W-what?" I ask, panic starting to take place. I run my hands up and down my face.
"The Agency has been taken over." Dylan says slowly.
"I called my Dad about two hours ago. He was fine." I say, my voice rising a bit.
"Things can happen in that time Julia!" Dylan states, his voice rising at every word.
I take a step back. Dylan notices and gives me a sad look.
"I'm sorry." He says softly.
"It's okay." I reply. We stand in silence. My head is so full of thoughts, I don't know what to think. What happened? How did it happen? I need to know. I need to find out.
"What do we do?" I ask Dylan.
He shakes his head and scratches his jaw. He looks off in the distance behind me and I can see the thoughts running through them.
"We wait." He says simply.
"What?! We can't just leave them there!" I shout."Well, I don't know what else to do." He says calmly.
"My Dad's in there! Heck, even Erica is there! Isn't there any family you have in there?!" I shout once again.
"I don't have any family." Dylan says quietly. That keeps me quiet. Geez, sometimes I can be a hothead. I put my hands behind my back and draw a circle with my foot. Just like a little kid.
"I'm sorry." I say, looking down at the ground.
"It's okay. You didn't know." He replies.
"I was right though. We need to do something." I say, changing the subject.
Dylan sighs and ruffles his hair, making him look younger.
"Do you have any, like, army men?" He asks.I raise my eyebrows. Yeah, what a great plan. What are we gonna do with some army men? Make them choke on them?
"It's for a plan." Dylan says.
"Right. I totally guessed that. Um, I think my Dad has some from when he was a kid. I'll be back."
~
Of course the army men were in an old shoe box at the back of my Dad's closet. So typical. At the moment, all of the army men are set on the table strategically. Dylan is standing on one side of the table and I on the other. He's going over a plan but I'm not listening. I can't listen, not when there's a voice screaming inside of my head saying that this is a terrible plan. All the plans will be terrible.
"Julia?"
"Mhmm." I hum in response.
"Were you listening to what I was saying?"
"What?" I ask.
Dylan sighs very loudly and then crosses his arms.
"I think that you should just stay here."
"No. I want to help." I say.
"Then maybe you should listen." He says sarcastically.
I nod my head and this time I actually pay attention.
~
If it couldn't get any more typical. Dylan and I are right on the outskirts of a fence, staring at an abandoned warehouse. This part was not in the Plan.I clear my throat.
"What do we do now?" I ask Dylan.
Dylan shakes his head and then starts to rub his temples. He opens his mouth and is about to say something but a ringing cuts him off.In the distance there is flashing red lights. There are some black figures emerging from the warehouse and the faint smell of gas. Dylan gets on his bike and I get on after him. I wrap my arms securely around his torso and he takes off in the direction of the front of the warehouse.
As we get closer, I can hear the muffled sound of an intercom. The language sounds like gobbley gook but I don't care. I need to find my Dad and I suppose Erica too. We reach the front of the building and the last person to run out is my Dad.
I get off of the bike and he shouts something at me but I can't hear. I run towards him but an explosion knocks me off of my feet, sending me backwards onto the ground. I knock my head off of something but before I can check, the world turns black.
