Chapter 3
That night I was a restless night full of dreams. In the dreams I was always running, searching for something, yet I couldn't figure out what I was looking for. I just felt empty, and knew something bad was about to happen. Suddenly a flash of red came and then it went totally black for a moment. A flash of lightening lit the midnight sky and I saw my mom and dad there dead, but what brought me over the edge was a tall figure standing over Chase and Nick. He said, "Choose."
I woke up gasping for air, sweating. I tried to clear my mind but I couldn't. Soon I gave up trying to sleep and went downstairs. It startled me to see Chase up.
"Hey." My voice sounded sleepy and ruff. I clear my throat a bit.
"Oh, hey, you're up early. It's five." He said looking down.
Pulling up a stool, I sat down behind the counter, folding my arms up and resting my chin on them. "Couldn't sleep, you?"
"Same."
"Nightmare for me," I shuddered.
"I had one too, but it's happened before. Every night I have this dream, sometimes I can shake it off and other nights I can't. It's the same dream in my head replying over and over again."
"Do you want to talk about it?" I asked concern filling my voice.
"Um... well it was the night my life really changed. It was about five months ago. I was walking home from a friend's house around midnight; my dad had been drinking again. Bad habit of his, He was drunk, wasted, and he and my mom were having their daily fight about money and dad cheating. I walked in on time to see my dad get out a knife and stab her five times, right in front of my eyes. I panicked, my best friend, my mom was dead, gone, stabbed. Then he came after me." I saw the hurt in his eyes change to hate and disgust. "Finally I got the knife out of his hands after he stabbed me once on the side, really shallow thought. I knocked him out, by then the cops came and she covered in blood and was gone."
"Oh my gosh." I said jumping up and hugging him tightly, he hugged me back tightly too. "I have no idea; I can't even fathom the hurt you have been through. I am so sorry; no pity though, because I know that bugs you." I smiled a sad smile.
"It's fine," he mumbled.
"Well, it's seven now, so go and get the guys up and dress. I'm taking you guys to a soccer game. They are the biggest things around here, everybody goes to them and football games of course." I said smiling.
"Okay," he said, "oh and Piper, thanks."
"Anytime and I mean that." I said walking upstairs.
