Cold. Wet. Dark. I was on the ground in front of my favorite place, Connor's Diner. They have the best burgers in Iowa. When I try to get up a sharp pain shoots up through my spine. How long have I been here? Seconds? Minutes? Hours? Days? I had blacked out and don't remember anything from that night. But, before I get to that, let's start from the beginning.

"Hi. My name is Becky," I said as I stood in front of my new classmates. Standing there in my hoodie and jeans wondering if I would fit in here. About a year ago is when my parents got divorced. That's also when dad started to travel more for work. My dad left for 3 weeks and didn't come back. Then, my mom freaked out. She got remarried after that, and we stopped talking as much. I have one older sibling, and his name is Derek. He and dad keep things hidden from me most likely thinking I'm too young to know, but Derek and I are only 2 years apart. Dad said that he wanted me to live a normal life. I don't know what he means by that though. How can a few family secrets change my whole life? I'm 16 and the new kid in school, once again. Nothing out of the ordinary for me. Normal life, right?

When I was younger, my brother taught me how to fight, but I never use my strength against people. I have no need to, seeing as how people mostly leave me alone wherever I go. As I stand in front of my Chemistry class, I hide behind my hood. I look at all of the people in my class. They all seem like ordinary people, but one stands out to me. He has sea blue eyes that pierce into mine, shaggy brown hair, a goofy smile, and perfect white teeth. As I take my seat, I notice that everybody is staring at me. Great. There was only one person that wasn't staring at me like I was a freak, and it was him. When I had enough of the staring, I turned to my lab partner to start up a conversation. "Hey, what's your name?"

"Emily," she mumbled, then she asked me questions about myself before class starts. Most of the questions I couldn't answer, but only because my dad never told me about any of the things that he does.

When the bell rings, and class starts I'm the only person sitting in my seat. Finally everybody sits and quiets down. "Finally", I sighed mentally as she helped me get situated before the teacher starts class. When the bell rung, I walked out of class with 4 new friends and an invite to a lunch table.
