Della's P.O.V
People say that you should always trust your instinct, and you should never do anything that you don't want to do. But they never tell you what to do if you don't know what to do.
It was six o'clock, and I'm meant to be at Leondre's house for dinner with his family. Well, I'm at his house, but I haven't knocked on the door yet. I've been contemplating knocking on the door many times, yet I can't bring myself to do it. After what I heard earlier from Leah about what happened with him and Zoe, I'm not sure I'll be able to look him in the eye.
I felt a vibration in the back pocket of my jeans. I reached for my phone and saw that I had a text from Leondre.
"You still coming?" he texted.
I was unsure what to say. Do I lie and say that I'm ill and I can't come, or do I just suck it up and go inside? I thought about the pros and cons for a moment, and decided it would be better if I just knocked on the door.
I took a deep breath and closed my eyes for a moment. 'Everything is going to be fine, his family will be here, nothing bad will happen,' I tried to convince myself. It didn't work; I was still as nervous as before, but I knocked on the door anyway.
I stepped back and waited for a moment, and suddenly a girl, only a few years younger than me, opened the door and smiled at me.
"You must be Della," she stated. I smiled and nodded, and she opened the door wider for me to enter the house. It wasn't a large house, but it was bigger than where I live. There were pictures dotted around the walls of the hallway, and a delicious smell coming from the kitchen. There was no staircase so I assumed that they live in a bungalow, a large, homely bungalow.
I saw Leondre emerge from where I assume was the kitchen, and boy did he look happy to see me.
"Hey Della," he said as he came over to me, "can I take your jacket?"
I breathed for a moment, and nodded with a smile on my face. I can't let him think that something is on my mind otherwise he will get suspicious. I hastily but confidently took my jacket off and gave it to him, which he proceeded to hang on a hook by the door with lots of other coats, scarves and hats.
"It's good to see you again," He smiled as he opened his arms to hug me.
Crap.
What do I do? I don't wanna hug him, do I? What if this is the start of him being inappropriate with me?
No Della, stop thinking this. You don't believe that Leo could do such a thing, and you don't want him to get suspicious, so just man up and hug him.
I did the same as him, and opened my arms to hug him. He placed his arms around my shoulders for a few seconds before pulling away. Now that wasn't as bad as I thought.
"This is my sister, Tilly," He stated as he pointed towards his sister.
"It's nice to meet you Tilly," I told her with a fake smile. I wasn't sure if it was nice to meet her or not, seeing as she's related to Leo, but she seems nice enough.
"You too," Tilly said with a big smile. "I've heard loads about you from Leo, he never shuts up about you."
I felt my cheeks turn a shade of red, although I'm not sure why. I looked over to Leo momentarily and his face was bright red. I laughed slightly, and followed Tilly into the kitchen, where their mother was cooking dinner.
"Della! My dear, how are you?" She asked as she gave me a friendly hug. It felt nice to see his mum, she's always been nice to me since I met her, and I know that Leo wouldn't do anything with his mum and sister around. So I relaxed a little and answered Victoria's question.
"I doing well thanks," I told her with a genuine smile on my face. The only genuine smile I've had since I've been here.
"Good, well I hope you're hungry because dinner is just about ready!" She told me.
I then followed Leo to where the kitchen table was and sat down next to him. We made simple small talk whilst waiting for dinner, and it wasn't as awkward as I thought. I was probably the only one feeling awkward.
Shortly after, Victoria and Tilly came over with plates full of food.
"Traditional Sunday dinner," Victoria said as she placed the plates in front of Leo and myself. "Enjoy"
We all started to cut up our food and eat it. And oh my lord, I don't think I've ever tasted food so good in my life.
"This is incredible, Victoria," I complimented her.
"Thank you, but I have to admit I can't take all of the credit. Leo did a lot of this before you arrived," She smiled with her eyebrows raised at Leo. I turned to look at him and again, his face was bright red.
"Well thanks Leo, it's really nice," I laughed at him. He said a small thank you, and carried on eating his food.
After a short while, all of our plates were cleared with no food left. I didn't feel uncomfortable anymore, and I was having a really great time. And so was everyone else I believe.
"Thank you so much Victoria and Leo, that was delicious," I complimented, again.
"It was no trouble, let my take your plate for you," Victoria replied.
"No, allow me. You just cooked me a lovely dinner and the least I could do is clear the plates for you," I told her.
"Well that's very kind of you," She grinned.
"I'll help you Della," Leo said as he too started getting up and picking plates from the table.
I nodded at him with a smile. I feel quite comfortable with Leo again, and I honestly don't understand why Zoe doesn't like him or how he was inappropriate with her. All he's done to me is be kind and sweet. I really don't know how Zoe doesn't like the same person that I'm talking to right now. He's so nice.
After we finished clearing away the plates and dishes, I went and sat in Leo's room with him for a bit. It was small, but a cosy small. There were a few posters on the wall of some bands, and a picture frame of him and his mum and brother and sister next to his bed, with a picture of him and his friend in another photo frame next to him. Charlie, I think his friend was called.
When he asked if we wanted to hang out in his room for a bit I was a little hesitant but eventually I said yes. His room is right next to the kitchen where his mum is, so if anything happens I'll just go to his mum and say that I'm leaving.
"It's a bit messy, I know," he blushed slightly as we went in, "but I did try to tidy up as much as possible." I looked around the floor, a few socks and t-shirts with some crumpled up pieces of paper and school books, nothing worse than my own room.
"It's not messy, I think it's nice," I smiled at him and he blushed even more. I sat down on his bed next to him and picked up the frame of his family and smiled. Tilly was on Leo's back and they were laughing. His mum and his other brother were hugging.
"Where's your brother tonight? He wasn't at dinner?" I questioned him. I did want to meet his brother, he looked nice.
Leo's face suddenly looked uneasy, as if I said something wrong. But what could I have said? I only asked about his brother, and I thought they were close.
"Um-er," Leo stuttered, as if he was trying to come up with an excuse, "He's away at the moment, he won't be back for a while."
I nodded, and decided not to ask anything more of it as it was clear that Leo wasn't going to say any more on the subject. It did confuse me though, why would he talk about his brother so much if he didn't want to talk about him?
