The snow crunches as hurrying feet move across the surface, seeking one final, haunting destination.
I can hear the heavy breathing of the group behind me, all starting to slow but none daring to stop.
As we turn the corner a group of murmuring teens block any sight of who it is, leaving only the guards faces visible over the crowd.
"Move." A person to my left is shoved out of the way. "Get out of my way." A person slightly ahead is roughly pushed forward. I turn to see Carmella completely obliterating the crowd as she pushes to the centre, whereas Chloe, Kasey and I patiently excuse our way through the crowd.
I look over the frosted, snow infused body resting stiffly in the damp fallen leaves. I hear Carmella breathe a sigh of relief as we all realise it's a complete stranger to us. I look to my left to see a girl, almost identical to the frozen boy, bawling as she takes in the state of what seems to be her brother or twin.

I sit down on my bed, tired and cold. I look at the pile of bags and stand back up, tipping them all out to find something to wear other than this tank top. As I rummage through the piles of clothes an icy breeze sweeps through and I shiver, looking faster at my clothes.
After settling on a pair of skin-tight black jeans and a bulky white sweater with 'Twerk' placed neatly over my chest I stand back up, pocketing my knife and head out once again.

The first place I went to was the house I had learnt was Lavinia's to check on her. She had come down with an intense fever and was bed-ridden with Carmella to watch over her.
The next place I went to was the small park nestled into the residential district and there I have stayed for the past few hours. Stopping the think and take all of this mess in.
The old wooden bench I am sitting on creaks as a boy probably a year or two older then me sits down. I look towards him and he smiles weakly. "So, did you hear about the boy who died?" He mutters, probably trying to keep his mind off of something. I nod. "I was scared it was one of my friends." I admit and he nods. "I was too, except it was." He looks down and sighs. My eyes widen and he looks up at me. "Don't worry though. I saw you here and thought talking to someone might stop me thinking about it." I nod and smile at him. "Well then, I'm Anna and who might you be?" I hold out my hand and try to speak as cheerfully as I can muster. He takes my hand and his mood seems to be improving already. "I'm Byron." He shakes my hand once, and lets go. I run through my mind, trying to think of ways to cheer Byron up.

I sit down at the table, a completely loaded plate of food grasped between my hands. I glance at my food and back up as Byron sits down too. We had decided to go to this 'all-you-can-eat' restaurant to get something to eat. So far I had learnt that Byron was about to turn 19, he was born in Ireland but quickly moved to Australia as that is where his parents were from. He told me about the history of Australia, that it was once a separate country but a series of earthquakes had pushed all countries closer together. This I had partially known about. All countries had been grouped up since my birth so I haven't known this world any other way. This also helped the disease spread from it's place of origin to another, and another. Creating the problems we are having with it now.
Byron seemed ecstatic now, not an ounce of sorrow left in his insanely cute features. When he smiles he looks about 3 years younger and carefree, while when he isn't smiling he looks mysterious and handsome. Mysterious he most definitely is not. The loss of his friend and of other people in his life must have hit him hard.
Throughout the conversation we had been throwing in playful flirting every now and then, he seemed to be having fun. Good.
