Oakland's Baddest: Chapter 9
~Marco P.O.V.~
I was at the house by myself, laying belly up on my bed. I was surrounded by blackness and my thoughts. I hated this life that we lived.
I wanted things to go back to the way they were back when Mama and Dad got along. Eddy and I were in pure happiness when Mama and Dad were happy and together. After Dad left life wasn't the same. If Dad was here, Mama wouldn't have to work so she wouldn't be stressed out. Varo wouldn't be out of control and a threat to all of society. He's 10 years old, in a gang, killing people, and walks around with a gun. That's not how it should be, all of that is because Mama isn't home to keep him in line.
I heard a few rounds fired outside but ignored it. I hated living in this area, I was tired of being scared walking down the street or being randomly jumped by a gang. I don't know or understand how Varo isn't phased by any of this, I watch him walk up and down this hood like as if he lived in the high end part of Oakland.
I ended up falling asleep replaying all the happy memories I could manage to remember when it was the 4 of us living happily.

~2 Years Later~Eddy and I stayed in that hospital for 3 days straight with Mama. Eddy wouldn't leave her side and I felt bad at the thought of walking out. After the 3rd day, the hospital staff made us leave, but Mama came home that night.
Tension between Eddy, Marco and I were starting to rise. Eddy joined a gang and our gangs don't like each other. Jairo dragged Eddy into the gang and both Jairo and Eddy were starting to change. I didn't like it and neither did Marco.
Eddy and Marco were starting to fight more like how Marco and I would fight. There were countless times when we would have to go to the hospital because one of them was seriously hurt. Eddy never carried or used a gun in his gang and I was thankful for that because I already knew if Eddy had a gun him and I wouldn't be afraid to pull it out on each other.
On the bright side there was a cute girl who started to come around the upper part of the hood where my clique was. She had black curly hair, big brown eyes, and was just cute to me. Her name was Auburn Stevenson and she lived with her Mama and Dad. Her Dad was in the army so it was usually just her Mama and her. She always had a cookie, cupcake, lollypop, or some kind of sweet treat you could imagine. So we gave her the nick name of Sweet Cheeks.
It was Lexis, Javier, Arlie, Jaquory, Marco, J, and I all chilling outside of Javier's house.
"Aye Sweet Cheeks" Lexis laughed as she walked up. It was a hot day and she was in shorts, a tank top, and flip flops. Her crazy curly hair was pulled tight into a bun that sat right on top of her head.
"Hey Lexis" She smiled at him. I think she had a crush on him but he liked someone else. "Hey boys" She said to the rest of us as she took a seat in my lap. Her and I had known each other for a while, so we were kinda close.
"Hey" We all said at once. Today was one of those days where nothing was really popping off through the streets.
"So what are y'all doing?" She asked
"Just chilling. It's too hot to play any sports" Arls said as he fanned out his shirt
"Why don't we all go down to the lake and swim?" She looked around at all our faces. That actually wasn't such a bad idea.
"We ont wanna walk all the way there when it's like hells oven." I said as I wiped the sweat off my brow. "Also the lakes' near some gangs trap. I sure as fuck ain't goin over there."
