I felt there was a follow up needed. ALSO, things get intense towards the end, but I don't write smut, so whatever was in the original novels is pretty much my limit.

Finally, graduation day was here. Dimitri and I had agreed to wait until two months after graduation to start being together. In just two months I would be able to feel Dimitri's arms around me again.

I'd be working as Lissa's Guardian, and Dimitri was going to transfer to get a job as a Court Guardian. Of course, there'd be time we spent apart, like while I was at college with Lissa or when one of the permanent Moroi residents left the wards and needed to take a Guardian with them. Knowing Dimitri, his skills would be in high demand.

My trials had gone flawlessly, and Dimitri and I had even been allowed a moment as mentor and student for him to reassure me they would. My mother was with us when it happened, so it had unfortunately been nothing more than a mentorly reassurance. And as my mother predicted, my father had shown up during the last month of school and inserted himself into my life as if he had never left. It had pissed me off at first that he would assume he could take part in my life after eighteen years but he soon won over Eddie, Lissa, and Christian somehow so I stopped having a choice in the matter. And, if the rumors were true, he had been the one running the betting pool on whether or not I showed up today. When I asked her, my mother assured me he would have been betting in my favor if he was.

Now, I was standing with the rest of my novice friends, waiting for my name to be called. I felt a sharp pain of regret when Mason's name wasn't called. It felt wrong. I no longer felt that it should have been me, but I still knew it was my fault.

It felt like forever for my name to be called so I could go receive my promise mark. When it was, the room gasped, I had the highest scores out of the entire class by a mile. I kept my smile small and went up to receive my mark. The artist that would be tattooing it on grunted when he saw the two molnija marks and the star already there. He still managed to fit in the mark around them, though, and soon I was officially a guardian. As I made my way back to my position, my eyes met Dimitri's, who was sitting among the rest of the guardians in the front. We both allowed the smallest of smiles before I turned my head to see Lissa sitting with my mother and father.

I grinned as I faced forward, today I was an official guardian, and today marked the first day of the two months Dimitri and I would stay apart. After that, college, and a life with my best friends in the world. Yeah, I could live with that.

Once everyone was tattooed, we all left for whatever get together our families and friends had planned for us. Abe, with his apparently never-ending amount of influence, had gotten one of the banquet rooms for my party. I went to my room to get ready and took my time applying my makeup and fixing my hair. I wagered to guess this would be the first time for a while that I would be able to put total effort into my appearance.

As soon as I stepped out of my room, I nearly ran into Dimitri, who was wearing a thin sweater and dress pants under his duster. "Dimitri? What are you doing here?"

He smiled and bowed, "I've come to escort you, Miss Hathaway."

I narrowed my eyes as a smile spread across my face, "I thought we weren't supposed to be alone with each other?" I said, wrapping his pinky in my own.

Dimitri sighed and looked to the side, "We're not. However, your mother was gracious enough to allow us this moment. She said we have five minutes before she joins us."

I grinned and closed some of the space between us, "Then let's not waste it."

He smiled back, his true smile, and finished closing it as his lips met mine. After three months of nearly zero contact, especially after having finally been with him, the heat from the kiss spread through my entire body, and I wrapped my arms around his neck to try and get closer than I already was.
