Several hours later when I'm talking with Tris in her room, Zeke comes in. I get up and walk quietly out since he asked me earlier if he could tell Tris about the lung transplant himself. After a while he comes out and smiles at me. Despite all of the sadness today, I manage to smile back.
When I walk back into the room Tris is crying. I sit on the edge of the bed and gently pull her into a hug. She buries her face in my neck and her shoulders shudder as she cries silently.
"The doctors had just told me that my lung was failing fast, and I was trying to be ready to die and then Zeke came in and told me," she says in between sobs. "It was perfect timing."
"I know, I know," I say soothingly.
"Maybe there is a God like my parents used to say. It feels like he's watching over and protecting us."
"And maybe you're right," I say with a smile.

New Ending to Allegiant
Short StoryLike many other fans of Veronica Roth's "Divergent" series, I was unsatisfied with the ending of the final book, Allegiant. Here I have written a new one. I hope you enjoy it.
