That night Francesca lay in her bed that night staring at the ceiling, the fan going round, and round...
The beep of a cardiac monitor filled the room. The heavy sent of disinfectant filled her nose; her throat felt alien. She could only see in a haze, barely able to open her eyes. She relied more on her sense of hearing to understand the world around her. Over looking the heart monitor she could her a baby crying from down the hall, people walking around, and the faint snoring of someone next to her . Someone walked into the room, the warming scent of coffee, mixed with sweet lilac perfume. It reminded her of the way her mother smelled; the person drew closer to Francesca. Her foot steps were soft as she made her way to the bed.
The gruff sound of a man came, followed by a yawn. The scent of coffee was over powering now; the man took a sip before setting it on the bed side table. The man and woman whispered in soft voices; "How is she?" The voice sounded like her mother's, soft and gentle. "Nothings changed, nothing has changed for days." He sounded pained ,and tired. "I know, but you know what they said, she will just have to come out of this herself."
The voices began to fade, being drowned out by the cardiac monitor once more.
Francesca sat bolt upright in bed, gasping for breath. She was drenched in sweat, her pale hair clinging to her skin. Tears fought to escape down her face. Everything felt so real, the smells, the sounds; how could that be?The house was silent, except for the humming of the fan above her. She came to the conclusion that it was just a strange dream, and drifted back off to sleep
Merry Christmas everyone! I hope you enjoyed this chapter; sorry for the cliff hanger, more is on the way!
