My alarm went off at 6:30 the next morning. I groaned as I reached over to turn it off. As I sat up I realized my throat was starting to mildly burn. It felt like I just had a sore throat. And now that I've had a taste of human blood, the craving for it seemed to intensify; but I was going to have to settle for animal. I had to hurry and get ready so I could feed before school. I took a quick shower and finished getting ready. I hurried down the stairs and grabbed an apple out of the fridge.
"You're ready early this morning." Mom commented from the table as she took a sip of coffee. She had her work clothes on and would be leaving in about a half hour.
For some reason, it felt weird to tell mom that I was going to go drink blood; even though she knew I was an Immortal. "Yeah, I have some homework at school that I forgot about." I lied, as I took a big bite out of the apple. Then I grabbed my backpack that was hung around the back of a chair. "I want to get there early and finish it." I slipped one of the straps over my shoulder and backed up toward the entry way. I took another large bite from the apple. "I have to work after school, but I'll see you tonight."
She nodded. "Okay, have a good day." She smiled. "I love you."
I smiled back. "Love you too." I replied as I hurried into the entry way and slipped my shoes on. I grabbed my car keys and half jogged to my car. Before I got in, I took one last large bite from the apple and tossed it in our trash bin on the curb. Then I opened my car door, set my backpack on the passenger's seat and tore out of the drive way. It was now 7:15. It took five minutes to get to the woods, approximately 15 minutes to hunt—give or take, and a ten minute drive to school from there; which meant I would be at school at about 7:45. Fifteen minutes before school started.
No more than five minutes later, I was parking my car on the gravel road next to the woods. No one was around so I sprinted into the tall trees at full speed. At this time in the morning, most of the woodland creatures were awake and going about their lives. Too bad I had to pick one out to feed off of. I could hear and smell animals in the tree next to me; so I stopped and looked up. Sure enough, there was a family of squirrels jumping happily around the branches. I almost felt bad, but I had to do what I had to do.
I gracefully jumped high into the tree and grabbed the branch the squirrels were next to. They barely had time to react as I let go of the branch and grabbed two of them by their tails, then landed silently back on my feet. I drank from both of the squirrels at the same time so I could make it to school somewhat early. My fifteen minute guess had now turned into eighteen. I drank all the blood from the squirrels, tossed them to the ground, and hurried back to my car. When I got there I looked in the mirror and noticed I hadn't gotten a drop of blood on my face. I grinned flashing my fangs to myself and then pulled them back up.
I pulled into the school parking lot at 7:50. I parked my car in the first empty spot I saw, even though it was very far away from the front door. Then, I grabbed my backpack and hurried into the school. I saw Noelle waiting for me by my locker holding onto her English folder and book. She wore an impatient look on her face.
"About time! I was about to go to class without you." Her voice coming out kind of shrill. Noelle wore her dark brown hair in a fishtail side braid and had on a navy blue hooded sweatshirt with light jeans.
I shot her a glance with a small smile. "Well you could've. You don't have to wait for me." I opened my locker and plopped my backpack down on the floor of it; then pulled out my stuff for English. Then we began walking toward our first period class.
"Well it's too late now." She commented. We walked into the classroom with two minutes to spare. Mr. Nelson was writing the lesson plan for today on the white board.
