Anyways, this is going to be short.
I don't know if you've already read a fan fiction where Jeff and the MC were already friends or lovers. If you have seen one, please do tell me.
On that note, this is the most cliché thing ever: Jeff and MC have never met once, have never known each other, and have never had any relationship.
Yeah, all stories start with Jeff and MC not knowing each other (or with just Jeff knowing her). If you can write a nicely done new story (not a sequel) where Jeff and MC are already lovers/acquaintances/enemies/partners/inmates/or whatever, then you're awesome. Give me your link and we'll see if you nailed it. ;)
