How to Disappear Completely | Joshler

Prologue

"I'm going to miss you when you leave." Tyler sighs as he rests his head next to Josh's head. Both are staring up at the ceiling.

"I didn't know I was leaving?"

"Well, it's either you or me. But I like this neighbourhood so I'm staying."

"Um, can you tell me why one of us has to leave? I mean, why can't we both stay?"

"Because friendships aren't made to last this long. Life will eventually find its way to separate us."

"What makes you think it's by that way? What if we end up fighting and then never speak to each other again?"

"Highly unlikely. You'd probably apologise almost immediately, even if I was the one wrong."

"Well... What if we simply drifted apart?"

"Again, unlikely. You're too much of an emotional wreck; you need me to get through your so called 'difficult life.'"

"Screw you man."

"Hey- I need you too! But you already knew that."

"...Well, I just hope when I leave, I'll find someone like you."

And with that, Josh slumps over to lie on his side so he's facing away from Tyler. Next to him is a nightlight, but he doesn't feel like reaching over to switch it off, so instead he pulls his covers over his head. He lies there completely still, contemplating. He already had this conversation with Tyler a few days ago. However, he didn't have a heart to tell him. He figured, he would listen to all that again, but this time, respond to him differently to see how Tyler would react. Last time, he jokingly told Tyler how certain he was that a nasty fight would break the duo and Tyler nearly broke down in front of him.

Deep down Josh feels bad, and feels as if he's lying to him. But Josh knows his friend all too well, and knows that Tyler didn't want to be constantly reminded about his problems.
