"Love is friendship that has caught fire. It is quiet understanding, mutual confidence, sharing and forgiving. It is loyalty through good and bad times. It settles for less than perfection and makes allowances for human weaknesses."
Ann LandersWe finally get there and I can’t help feeling like we, especially, I am over-dressed.
“Jordan am I... are we overdressed?” I ask.
“No, not at all, I’m sure when we enter the auditorium we will be underdressed.” Jordan says as we leave the parking lot.
The kids really went all out for the decorations for the homecoming dance. Usually, our school does not have major themes, we use colours and dress to match them, but this year, they decided it would be fun to have one. The theme is “Red Carpet Bal Masqué.”
The place looks awesome. They have put a red carpet from the door with velvet ropes that leads into the school right to the door of the auditorium where there are long red and black curtains making way to auditorium, and then right when you enter is a beautiful setup, there are spotlights, a figure of a giant film roll, film strips and black and gold balloons against a red background for taking pictures, then a photo booth for those who want to take more. Inside the auditorium was all black, red and gold. I couldn’t even see our school colours, they really meant this red carpet theme, there were round tables at the opposite sides of the auditorium, the food and drinks were at one end and a dance floor was left in the middle, then there was the stage at another end with the DJ stand right beside it. I was so astonished, and I think Jordan wowed.
Two girls came to stand before us.“Hi, I’m Kayla...” The blonde one who seems like a talker says.
“I’m Megan” The brunette said.
“Hi...” Jordan and I say simultaneously.“I’m Daphne and he is Jordan.”
“Okay...I’m guessing you are the chaperones.” Kayla asks with a wide smile on her face.
“Yeah, live and in colour.” Jordan says.
“And I’m guessing that you are the brains behind this amazing view.” I ask.
“Yeah kind of...Thanks by the way.” Kayla responds.
“Actually we are the heads of the homecoming committee...” Megan says “She is in charge of homecoming while I’m for the decorating sector.” She quickly adds.
“Oh... Okay, so where do we need to start from?” I ask.
“Well we need someone to take the homecoming pictures, the photographer cancelled...” Kayla says.
“I can take care of that; I didn’t take like 2 years photography course for nothing ... So do you have a camera?” Jordan says.
Kayla and Megan stare at each other for a while and make small-talks... “Photography club!” They scream.
I stare at Jordan and mouth ‘What do they mean?’ He shrugs his shoulder and shakes his head.
I think Megan saw our confusion and explained to us that the photography club has a camera that they could use for the homecoming dance. They go and get the camera whiles Jordan and I wait. As we go on admiring the beautiful decorations, someone jumps behind us and startles me, only me!
“Jesus!” I shout whiles turning around to see who is there. Great, now Jordan is laughing so hard I think his intestines may come out and so are Megan and Kayla.
