JORDAN
“That’s a beautiful name. Jordan, please apologize to Wes.” Daph tells me.
“Apologize my a**.” What did I do to apologize? I know Daph is trying to cheer me up but, I’m starting to get pissed off.
“Jordan, you know I don’t like hearing those words.” She says with an upset Look
.
“Daph seriously, you’re kidding right! This guy says a**hole and you smile. I say a** and you want to guilt trip me.” I say with a questioning look.“Well...Well, he doesn’t know that I don’t like hearing those words. But you do.” She stutters and now has this serious but cute face on... and I can’t even be mad at her.
Even with that look on, she still looks beautiful. I feel like the world has stopped and I can look at her for all of the time I want. I’ve realised just why I like engaging in little squabbles with her, so that I can see her angry, which is kind of funny yet amazing. Right now she’s also staring at me and it’s like we are having a stare off, but I am just admiring how beautiful she looks.
“Are you guys together?” We break apart from the stare off when Wesley speaks, there is no way I’m calling him Wes.
“No!” Daph quickly says.
“No, we are not together. We are two best friends who came to drink away our sorrows at least I am, because we got dumped.” I say dryly.
“Oh, that is sad, at first I thought this beautiful lady here was flirting with me?” Of course she was. That was an epic fail by the way.
“But let me make you something just meant for this. I have 3 killer mixes on my menu, Blood on the tracks, La Sonambula and The broken heart.” He says as he hands us the menu and waits for us to choose.
“Blood on the tracks...” I say as I hand the menu back to him.
“Coming right up...”
“I don’t know about this Wes, but the first 2 make me feel like after having them I’ll go and knife my ex, and the last one just makes me sad.” Daph says. I knew she would do this.
“Okay, I’ll mix you something special.” He says with a wink. I promise one more, flirty move from this guy and that is it.
Now he is displaying his mixing skills and Daph is looking all so cheerful. It is sickening. Finally, he finishes with the drinks. I don’t even wait for another flirting session, I grab Daph’s hand and drag her to the table, while she yells thanks to Wesley, with a smile, I can tell from her voice.
We finally get back to our table.
“Jordan, what was all that about? Wait, are you jealous?” She asks, with a mock shocked look.
“Me? Jealous of that guy...That would be over my rotten corpse.” I say with a fake smile.
“He was being nice Jordan.” She defends.
“Yeah right. I bet he tells all the girls who come here ‘...Notice where I am standing behind the counter’ too”. Then I take a sip of the drink. It’s not bad.
“Say that all you want I don’t care.” She says as looks at me.
“Oh Daphne, are you going to drink that?” I say in a sing-song tone gesturing at the drink in front of her.
“Yes... Yes I am, I’m just fighting with my conscience now Jordan.” I smell sarcasm in her speech.
“Oh Daphne are you still stalling. Hurry up so that we can order another round.” I say teasingly. I know that she is not going to drink anyway.
“Jordan, leave me and my special drink alone. I’ll drink it when I want to.” She half yells.
“Okay, I will. I was just checking in to see if you would still drink it because I want...” I never get to finish my sentence.
Daphne takes the glass and gobbles its contents. Then she puts the glass down noisily and shouts, “Wes, keep the drinks coming, I’m having a blast here.”
“Daphne, I was in no way forcing you to do what you didn’t want to do, so please stop this, you swore off alcohol remember?” I say quite slowly.
“I did swear off alcohol, and I also remember that I told you that I can handle it. Chill, Jordan I’m fine.”
Many drinks later...
“Jordan is it just me or the temperature just increased by like a hundred degrees.”
“I agree it’s hot now, I think it’s because we have drank quite a lot.”
“I’m going to use the washroom, I’ll be right back.” Daph says as she gets up and heads for the washroom.
I feel energy coursing through me now and I know that when I wake up the hangover is going to be off the charts. A voice is telling me to go to bed right after Daph comes back and get her to her hotel, but another voice is saying, live a little and make the most of the night. I don’t feel sad now, heck, I don’t even care that I’m getting a divorce. I feel like running around and doing totally dumb things and not regretting them.
I close my eyes and try to collect my thoughts. What to do next... What to do next, I can always take advantage of this moment and live a little... Live a little... That’s just what I’m going to do.
