Killian
There was a sharp pressure on my shoulder as I was being dragged from the living room, away from her.
I was pushed through the front door and out into the grass, almost tripping over a garden gnome. My ears were ringing, and my jaw ached.
How dare you demean our mate like that!
Calcifer, I'm not in the mood
She will reject us, and we'll be alone for another miserable 75 years. She's already terrified of us because of you, and now somehow you've managed to make it ten times worse.
You know I have no control over that
Calcifer shut me out after that, retreating into the back of my mind.
"What the actual fuck was that Killian? What is your problem?" Zane shouted, running his hands through his hair.
"Why do you care so much about my damn personal life?" I asked, regretting my actions in the house, but not ready to talk about it with Zane of all people.
"Because you're acting like a complete jack ass! You told me that Fleur was your mate, and judging from how you've treated her so far I don't think she is. That is not how mates treat each other." He said, shaking his head at me.
"She deserved it, she's acting ungrateful." I muttered, trying to think of any other excuse to explain my actions other than the real one.
"So because she is afraid for one of her close friends life, you think it's acceptable to call her weak and disrespectful?" He snarled. I shook my head.
"You wouldn't understand." I said, shaking my head.
"Then help me understand. She is a fierce girl Killian, and I can tell she's very powerful. She could tell my origin just by touching me once. You better man up and tell me why you are being so awful to her." He said, his eyes boring into mine. When I didn't say anything back, his eyes widened in realization.
"Wow, she bears a close resemblance to Sage doesn't she?" He asks, tauntingly. I growled.
"Shut up." I said, clenching my fists.
"No! You are punishing your mate because she somewhat looks like Sage! Killian, that was 50 years ago, Fleur is nothing like that bitch, and she never will be." He said.
"You don't know that! She could turn out to be exactly the same, and we wouldn't even see it coming." I said, trying to prove my point.
"Would you listen to yourself? You're comparing your amazing mate to a woman who has killed children. Do you know what I would give to have a mate again? To have my other half with me, to smell her scent and feel the sparks when we touch? I would kill for that, and you're taking it for granted. I honestly don't think I've ever been more pissed at you before." He spat, fangs slightly peeking out from his upper lips.
"I've already ruined us." I said, looking at the window that's adjacent to the living room. Fleur had already closed the plum curtains, effectively shutting us out.
"What does that even mean? You've just met her today!"
"She's terrified of me, and I don't blame her. We were in the kitchen and we were arguing and all of the sudden I didn't see her anymore, I saw Sage. Before I knew it I had her cornered by the island and I was crushing her wrist. It was like I blacked out and woke up because of the sparks I felt. I couldn't do anything about it, she was so scared, of me! I'm her mate and she doesn't even want to be near me!"
