Hermione expected the man to have an angry voice, but she was surprised. His voice was warm, but gruff from what she could tell, his beard was muffling his speech a lot.
"Um, sorry about yeh' door, don't know me' own strength sometimes"
He came into the hallway, and only then did Hermione realise how abnormal he looked. The first thing that hit her was his size; he looked at least three times bigger than anyone she had seen before. Then she noticed his clothes. He was wearing an old, brown jacket that looked even too big for him. You could barely see that it was brown, because it was covered in pockets, most of which were either wriggling or were covered in something that looked suspiciously like blood. Despite his threatening appearance, the man was wearing a large smile.
"Hermione Granger, found yeh' at last!"
Then he noticed Hermione's parents, who were still staring at the hole in the wall where the door used to be.
"Oh yeh', forgot about that"
Only then did Hermione notice that he was holding a large pink umbrella, which he pointed at the door and muttered something inaudible. The door jumped off the floor and reconnected itself with the door hinge. All Hermione's fear disappeared.
"How did you do that?"
The giant laughed.
"Maybe I'll show yeh' one day"

With that, the atmosphere calmed down quickly. Hermione's mum went into her usual trying-to-be-a-good-housewife-but-failing-miserably routine and her dad led the man into the sitting room. Hermione was still curious about him
"I'm sorry, should I know you?"
"Oops, forgot teh' introduce myself, me' name's Rubeus Hagrid, just call me Hagrid, everyone else does; I'm the gamekeeper at Hogwarts. I presume you know about Hogwarts, the last boy I went to fetch hadn't been told by his aunt and uncle."
"Um, no, um, sorry"

Hagrid took a copy of the odd letters that they had been receiving out of one of the pockets that weren't moving and handed it to her. It looked exactly the same as all the other letters except that it had dirt on it from the pockets. Hermione opened it tentatively, as if it might explode. Inside was another, cleaner bit of parchment.

HOGWARTS SCHOOL OF WITCHCRAFT AND WIZARDRY

Headmaster: Albus Dumbledore
(Order of Merlin, first class, Grand Sorc., Chf. Warlock, Supreme Mugwump, International Confed. of Wizards)

Dear Hermione Granger,
I am pleased to say that you have been offered a place at Hogwarts School of witchcraft and wizardry. Please find enclosed the list of books and equipment needed for first years. We await your owl with a reply.
Sincerely,
Professor McGonagall
(deputy headmistress)

Hermione looked up to see Hagrid beaming at her, though not in a ha-ha-I-tricked-you way.
"But" she stuttered "I can't be a witch! The idea's ludicrous!"
"Really? Nothing has happened when you were angry or upset?" Hagrid said incredulously
"Well... well yes but there were perfectly logical explanations for them all!"
Hagrid raised his eyebrows, before passing Hermione his absurd pink umbrella.
Here, point this at the door and say 'alohamora'"
Hermione took the umbrella. For some reason, her cold hands suddenly warmed up. With difficulty, as it was heavy, she pointed it at the door and said sceptically "Alohamora"
She and her parents gasped. The door unlocked itself and opened all by itself, and Hermione couldn't see anyone on the other side of the door.
"See, yeh' have natural talent! Now do yeh' believe me'?" Hagrid said with a grin
Hermione sighed "Yes, there seems to be no other explanation, logical or otherwise"
Suddenly, Hermione's mum, who had been reading the equipment list, piped up "How will we pay for all these things? We don't have enough money"
"Hogwarts has a bank vault for those who don't have wizard money. I should probably come with yeh', to get all yeh' stuff tomorrow, do yeh' mind?"
"Nope!" Said Hermione in a cheerful voice. She had taken a liking to this Hagrid, despite the fact that his head had made a hole in the ceiling.
"Then, I'll see yeh' tomorrow! Thanks for the drink and hospitality!"
And with that, he walked out the open door and closed it behind him, which made it break, again.
