A week later......
“Ok, get on” I said to Eric as he stared at me on my runner
“You sure it’ll hold me?” He queried
“Do you want to walk to the exams or what?” I replied, “Plus I got and extra helmet with the bike, I’m pretty sure it can hold 2 people...”
“I’m just worried ‘cause it’s falling apart... slightly”
“It’ll be fine” I smiled
Eric trusted me and pushed the helmet over his head, then joined me on my runner.
“Ready?” I called
He put his thumb up. With that, I revved the engine and we shot out of the garage and onto the road. As I wove around the traffic, my mind was on my duel. Yusei and Akiza will be watching, as well as a paying audience of people and most likely a TV crew with a camera. How will the city react to the new additions to my deck? Akiza will be the only member of the audience who knows that I posses both Stardust Dragon and Black Rose Dragon, and Yusei didn’t even know I’m taking my exam today. I was confident for my turbo duel exam. The Black Rose deck was working like a charm during my training. Eric had no problem learning my old deck, which consisted mainly of synchrons. As for static duelling, my dragon deck was thriving. I hadn’t yet summoned either Stardust Dragon or Black Rose Dragon, but I hadn’t needed to due to my Blue-Eyes White Dragons.
“Hey Dom, d’ya mind if we take a detour?” Eric said over the internal radio system
“Sure, just tell me where to go”
“Ok, take a right here”
I was confused. Eric usually hated detours. This must be pretty important if he wants to take it. After winding around some streets he had led me to the duel runner store.
“Eric... we could have window shopped later. We have exams in like an hour”
“You’ll see”
This confused me yet again. I decided to go along with it though. I mean, what else could I do? Eric was talking to the shop keeper as I walked in. He then turned to me and smiled as the shop keeper went into the back room.
“Ok, spill, what are you up to”
“Oh nothing...”
“That doesn’t work on me, remember?” I said, getting more and more frustrated.
“Well in that case, I decided to do something nice”
The shop keeper returned, wheeling in a new top of the range duel runner.
“There you go sir. Enjoy.”
“Thank you for your services”
“It was a pleasure”
“Nice runner, Eric” I said, slightly shocked
“Glad you like it,” he replied, “It’s yours”
My pupils dilated and my eyes widened in shock.
“You bought that for me?”
“Well, a top turbo duelist needs a top runner. I’ve seen the way you’ve trained recently, and you deserve it.” He smiled
“Eric... I... I don’t know what to say... It’s amazing... You’re the best friend ever...”
I hugged him. He continued smiling.
“Here...” I said throwing my keys, “Take Deathtrap”
“Thanks mate” he replied, smiling even more.
The sleek runner was light as a feather and looked like it had a powerful engine. Eric had spared no expense it seems. Could this be because of my gesture to him? His runner had broken down in the week and he needed a new one. It looks like he knew I would give him my old runner, and he was more than willing to take it if it meant me getting an amazing runner.
“So, What you gonna name it?” Eric asked, as we walked out the shop
“I think “Neos” sounds good”
“What after Jaden’s ace monster?”
“Precisely, also, “Neo” means new in Latin, so it fits quite nicely”
“Sounds awesome,” He smiled “We’ll paint it in your colours later, you mind if I paint Deathtrap here?”
“Nah, she’s yours now” I smiled
“Sweet”
I mounted Neos and turned the ignition. The runner roared ferociously into life. I revved a little. The power was intense. Looks like my Turbo Entrance Exam will be a lot easier than I thought. With this thought, I zoomed off, not going too fast, as not to ruin it before the exam, and also to allow Eric to keep up on Deathtrap. Next stop. The Kaiba Dome, the venue of the Duel Academy Entrance Exams, built by my great, great uncle. He’ll be proud of me by the end of the day. I could just tell.
