^^Snape > Hermione^^

SNAPE'S POV

I couldn't believe what had just happened, she didn't even give me a chance to explain. I thought she knew me well enough to see that I care so deeply for her, that I have my reasons. She has only made me realise that we are more incompatible than I initially thought.
I feel like a fool. I thought that maybe, just maybe I could put my trust in a woman again.
I let myself fall for the insufferable chit and I can only blame myself for that, But I blame her for causing this burning pain in my soul.

I saw her in the corridor with Weasel the next day, she didn't even bother to look at me.
No apology, she looked as though she didn't have a care in the world. I felt furious inside.
I glared at her as I passed and entered the great hall, I took my seat at the staff table and stabbed my fork into my sausage. "What did the sausage ever do to you Severus?" Minerva scoffed, "I'm not having a good day Minerva, do not push it." I warned. She glared at me and returned to her dinner. Hermione came and sat down with the rest of her dunderhead friends and I watched her intently, i wanted to hate her but deep down..... Oh deep down.

*****
The day seemed to creep by for Hermione, all she could think about was Severus. She never meant to loose it with him but he just pushed all her buttons. It was hard to comprehend that he just wouldn't give her a chance. The only option she had was to try and let go and move on.

"Miss Granger, a word." Snape spat as he passed the Gryffindor table, Harry looked at Hermione for an explanation but she just shook her head and shrugged her shoulders. "I'll see you in class." She smiled at Harry and Ron, and left the great hall. "What?" She snapped when she approached Snape. "Less of your attitude you irritating girl! detention! For a week, and 10 points from Gryffindor." Hermione huffed and looked up into Snape's cold, angry eyes. She couldn't see that behind those onyx Windows stood the urge to kiss her. "I wanted to discuss your school work Miss Granger." He explained, "you see it's come to my attention that you're falling behind." "I most certainly am not! I'm the best in my class and you know it!" Hermione was outraged. "If you were the best you would not be falling behind, you see, Professor Slughorn gave me some potions essays to grade as he was strapped for time and I came across your paper..." Severus smirked. Hermione narrowed her eyes at Severus questioningly. "And? What was the problem with it?" "It was quite terrible Miss Granger, I had to award your efforts with a D." He grinned evilly. "What??? A 'D', I never get a 'D' you have to be joking with me..." She shrieked. "You do 'D' work, you get a 'D'. Potions room for detention, in 10 minutes don't be late." Snape smirked and turned on his heels to leave.
"You're doing this on purpose!" Hermione roared but he ignored her completely.

Hermione was going to give him a piece of her mind, she stood outside the potions classroom.
"I know you're out there, come in you insolent brat." She opened the door and stormed in with her arms crossed defensively. "Where's Slughorn?" Hermione asked, not looking at Severus. She refused to make eye contact with that heartless bat. "Out picking ingredients, now you see that bucket over there? I want you to scrub the floor and when you're done I want you to report to me for further instructions." Hermione groaned and pulled out her wand, Severus quickly removed it from her grasp. "You will not be needing this Miss Granger. No magic!" He ordered. Hermione did as she was told and scrubbed away at the floor, she didn't lift her head to look at him once. He was perched against a desk watching her every move. After a while she turned her head and looked up into his eyes, she swallowed and looked away quickly.

Severus heard her sniff and her breathing became choppy, yet she still scrubbed away at the dirty floor. "Hermione..." He spoke softly, and she froze as she heard him use her first name again. She ignored him and continued with her task, tears still falling from her brown eyes.
He grabbed her by the arm and pulled her to her feet, she stood there waiting for him to take it all back, to apologise, to hold her. "You can go now." He sighed, turning his back on her.
