The Wings On My Back

Chapter 1

As I  ran down the path toward Sam's house, black and purple tears blur my vision. I trip on one of the earth fairy's rocks and tumble down the the tree covered hill. I let a shriek escape my lips. In a split second Sam is right next to me kneeling on the leaf covered ground.

"I-I'm sorry." I have a tendency for apologizing to much, even if its for something way out of my control.

"Its not your fault. Its your moms. Or even better its that mortals fault."

Last week some mortal dude came across our town and took some pictures. So now, the whole town has to move to a different forest. The thing is, my mom insist on moving to the mortal world so the dude who got the pictures doesn't come looking for us. She also thinks it would be "good" for me and Ember.
"Please come with me." I pleaded

"You know I can't. I have to take care of Tiye." Tiye is Sam's girlfriend. I can hardly stand being in the same room as her sometimes. And with the things Sams going though right now, she's the last thing he needs to be dealing with.

"Can't that girl take care of herself for once? All she does is complain about how much she hates her life. You know, I bet she's never considered others life's are worse than hers by far."

I don't even know ware that came from. Though I think its from the devilish hatred I've had bottled up in me for three years. I don't even know why he likes her. Not seeing her is one thing that makes me want to move sooner than later.
Sam ignores what I said and continues.

"When are you leaving?"

"Tomorrow. Which means I have to pack my room before tonight."I get up and help Sam up.
When he gets up he pulls me into his arms.

"Sam wha-"

Before I can finish asking him what in the world he is doing, he closes the already small space in between us. Before I know it, his lips are pressed against mine.

I run in my room and close the door before mom or Ember can see the to-wide-smile on my face. I take a deep breath and try to forget what happened before I flew away from Sam. What if Tiye finds out? What if she blames it on me?
I grab the black suit case and put the rest of my clothes in it. I leave a pair of shorts to sleep in and an outfit for tomorrow. It will take about thirteen hours to get to Jacksonville, North Carolina. After taking a shower and making a playlist for the ride, I get a pop tart from the cabinet and  go back to my room. By the time I finish the pop tart, everyone's asleep and I'm staring at the stars.

I love the setting of this story and I'm exited to see if I should finish it.
