The Wings On My Back

chapter 4

   I woke up to the singing of birds and sweet animals-NOT. What I really woke up to was thunder and a branch smacking my window. Lovely.

I heard a familer shriek come from beside me. I turn over and find Ember cuddled next to me shivering.

"Shh, it's ok. It's just the gods playing bowling." I pointed at the window and said in a serious voice, "Y'all should be in bed by now. Go. To. Sleep."

She stops shivering and giggles.
Then she tells off the bowling gods too.

"Yea! Go to sleep!"

I laughed and hugged her. She could be annoying sometimes, but I still love her. I spotted a pink furry thing in her arms.

"Snuggles, if Ember goes back to her room will you protect her from the thunder?"

Lleam did a good job with the snuggles thing. In a high pitched voice I replied for the bunny.

"Of course! I love her!"

"Good. Now take Snuggles and go back to bed. I love you."

I have a thing for kids. I've always wanted to baby sit but mom said it was too dangeres.

"I love you too sissy."

I kiss her forehead and she goes back to bed. I look at my phone for the time. 3:27. Thanks Ember. I text Lleam to see if he is awake.

Hay, you awake?

                                    Yea, you need my words of wisdome?

I just need someone to talk to.

                           We'll I'm listening.

I fell asleep before I could say anything back. I don't understand whats happening. It must be a dream. There is a man with a black tee and some jeans. He's kneeling beside a little girl. I walk closer. As I aproche them, I start to recognize them. The man, my father, and the girl, me.
I'm in tears. I remember this day like it was yesterday. Its the day my father died.
When a fairy dies, there spirit stays for ten minutes before going to the gods. This was that ten minutes.

"I need you to take care of mom for me. Can you do that?"

I shake my head no and fall into his arms. I'm sobbing and can hardly breath. He hugs me and looked me in the eye again. 

"Yes you can. Your a strong brave big girl. And I love you so much. I will always be with he gods watching over you and making sure you stay safe. Times almost up. I love you."

He hugs me and walks over to mom. As soon as he looks away, I run. I run as fast as I can and don't stop. I run past the school, the store, and into the woods. I keep running untill I trip on something. I fall and scratch my knee pretty badly.
I look back to see what I triped on and see something whight and curled up. As I walk over I realize that it is a wolf. Kneeling down I try to wake it. It doesn't move. Understanding that it's dead, I hear a whimper. I lift the wolf's arm and find a small pup under it. It was as whight as a ghost.

It starts to rapidly wine and scream. I don't remember this happening. It gets louder and louder until finally, I'm awake.
My phone is rapidly beeping. I forgot to turn off the alarm.

"Ughh!"

I snatch my phone from the black end table and turn the whole thing off. I lay back down and stare at the ceiling. Why did I have that dream? It was the first dream I had about that day, and its been 12 years. Why now? Questions swarming my head, I go to the bathroom and head down stairs.
