The Wings On My Back

Chapter 9

     When I wake up, were parked on the side of the road. I am wrapped in Alex's coat, he must've put it on me. I see Alex sitting on the hood of the car messing with his camera, he treats that thing like its alive. He notice me staring at him, I feel myself start to blush. He opens the door for me I try to hand him the jacket back but he wouldn't take it so i just put it back on.

"I didn't know what way to go and i didn't want to wake you."

I look at the road at it splits in two directions. Immediately i recognize it. "We down the middle."

He gives me a strange look. "But there's no road." He says looking between me and the forest. A mischievous grin reaches my lips.

"Exactly."

We start walking down the path i have walked a thousand times until we reach the barrier. It's still as dreary as it was when we were Embers age and we use to dare each other to touch it, Sam was always the only one who actually did. Alex is about an inch away from me as we walk.

"Its another two hours till we reach the colonie so lets make a fire and rest" I suggest. Then when Alex get his fancy little pile of wood ready he pulls out a small silver box the size of a thumb that sparks a flame! When we get the fire going he just stands there. Then out of nowhere he fell on his back with some on the ground with him. It's the boy from the car but he seems like I know him from somewhere else.

" I'm so sorry " the stranger says while helping alex up " I was just running from... nevermind you just better be on your way out of here and soon." He says while running away.

" Hey you need a ... ride " I go to ask but he is too far now. Alexs starts cursing out of nowhere

" That shit took my keys " He says

" Oh No " I say as we bolt for the car and get to the fork in the road and see him starting to drive off. Alex tries to chase the car but there's no need. The car swerves and flips into the ditch. Alex breaks into a sprint towards the car. We both get there and he start kicking around the wreckage.

"Where is it where is it" he finally picks up his camera or what's left of it. He begins to curse again under his breath as he makes his way to the driver seat. He practically rips the door off and drags the unconscious driver out.

"You piece of shit" Alex starts kicking the limp body

" Stop Alex stop it right now " I say while pulling him away " Go get some more firewood and calm down" He obediently walks away after spitting on the guy. I attempt to drag the limp body towards our makeshift camp site and tied him up with some rope I had brought just in case. I tie him up he decided to do something stupid again. His head is bleeding so I grab the first aid kit and clean the wound and wrap it up in goss.

Before I know it I am waking up. Once again in Alex's coat but this time there's a guy tied to a tree asleep. Alex is poke the fire with a stick when he sees me wake up.

"Why?" he asked "Why what?" I look at him knowing what he means.

" Why are we keeping the shit why not leave where we found him."

"I just-" I stop myself contemplating what to say. "I have a feeling ok?" It's not a complete lie, But I let it roll off my tongue anyways. I know he's not human, I can't tell what he's thinking or see what his past is like I can with humans. The boy starts to shift around and mumbling something I can't make out.

" I'm Going to see if I can find some food " Alex says while getting up.

" If you take a walk in the east and see a stream there are lots of fire berrys "
