|Prologue|
Richard's voice entered the large house as he carried an caramel frappé from McDonald's in one hand and a cellular device up to his ear in the other. He just came back from a trip from Las Vegas with a few of his old teammates. As soon as he stepped off the plane his ex wife Lauren called telling him how she wanted their daughter to stay with her for a year due to it being her senior year in highschool. They haven't really spent time with each other since her and Richard broke up, and that was back when Raine was in the eight grade.
As much as Lauren wanted to see her daughter throughout the years, Richard simply wouldn't allow it. He always claimed that it wouldn't be a healthy environment for Raine due to the fact that Laurens family consisted of drugs dealer, stealers, and just plain crazy people. Lauren wasn't even like them, she was the complete opposite of her family and Richard knew that. He just wanted to use it as an excuse for Raine not to go live with her.
"This is not fair Richard!" Lauren yelled into the phone "I deserve to see my daughter too she going to be leaving for college soon and I want to spend some time with her. It's been years since I've seen her in person"
Richard shook his head and placed his frappé on the island that sat in the middle if the kitchen. He really wasn't too interested in what she had to say. The reason for them being separated his because Lauren ended up cheating on him while he was away at a game. It was supposed to be a one night stand and nobody was supposed to find out. Since she was the wife of a famous basketball player; the paparazzi were snooping around.
A few hours after it happened, everything was on social media causing a big commotion. Once Richard saw it he snapped, he didn't even ask for an explanation he just kicked her out once he came home and days later they got a divorce he and decided to keep Raine. Lauren really hurt him and he doesn't know if he could ever forgive her.
"Look Lauren. Why can't you wait until the summer. This is her final year in highschool, there's no point in letting her transfer now" Richard suggested rubbing the back of his head
"Richard she doesn't even like the school nor the kids that are there, they only hang out with her because of who you are" Lauren pointed out making him raise an brow as if she could see him
"She told you that?"
"Well duh how else would I know?' She responded in a duh tone. Richard kissed his teeth before replying "How come she never told me that?"
Lauren laughed "Maybe you two don't have a bond like the both of us do"
"Look let me call you back. I need to talk to her" Richard said hanging up before she could have a chance respond. He was rude like that towards her.
Leaving his phone on the island he jogged upstairs towards Raine's room. Her door was closed but he could still hear her music coming from behind. He knocked twice before entering her room. Richard didn't see her until he walked further in, he spotted her inside of her walk in closet probably looking for something to wear she was still in her pajamas.
Richard decided to sneak up behind her to try to scare her but Raine already felt his presence and turned around before he could attempt to touch her "Hello Daddy" she smiled showing her dark blue braces that were coming off soon. Richard stopped in his tracks and gave an awkward smile.
"Hey Babygirl. How you know I was behind you? He asked
"You always have to be aware of your surroundings. That's one of the most important rules". Raine smiled turning back to her clothes to pick out something to wear for the day.
"Well your mother told me that you didn't like the school that you're at? Is that true? He asked getting straight to the point. Raine nodded her head yes to his question. She hated that school and the people there with everything in her. They're fake even the teachers all they cared about was her father and how rich and handsome he is. "She asked me to let you stay with her for your senior year but I'm not so sure yet"
Raine's face lit up. She missed her mother and very much wanted to stay with her before college "Please daddy it would mean so much to me please" Raine practically begged squeezing her father's hands
"I'll think about it Raine" he told her laughing
"No think about it now Daddy. I miss mommy so much like pleaseeeeee. I promise I'll continue to get good grades just please"
Richard thought for a moment and smiled giving in "Alright fine you can move with her but you better continue to keep your promise"
"I will daddy thank you so much. I love you" Raine hugged her father and continued to thank him before she ran into the bathroom with her phone to call her mom.
Richard laughed and shook his head. He enjoyed seeing his daughter happy and would do anything to keep it that way. He just hope he wouldn't regret his decision.
