The possibilities are endless, I could poison him, I could give him frostbite, or even fly him up high then drop him. It wasn't going to be fun, but what choice do I have? While he seemed very nice and helpful, he could really be a terrible person, I'm sure that my superiors know better than I do. They have more access to information, and simply know more than I do.
I finally settle on poison. On that note I decide that since I have everything planed out I might as well go to sleep. The supply of poison is in the medicine cabinet. It will be so easy to take his life and that worries me. A life one of the most fragile yet precious things this world has to offer is so easily taken away.
I change into a cotton night gown, brush my teeth, and remove my makeup then walk into bed. I shortly fall into an uneasy, restless sleep. I wake up when my alarm goes off at four am. I come to realize that having coffee with Max was a bad Idea, I may have over scheduled. I can't think about that. As for which poison I will use I think I'll go with cyanide, it is a classic.
I walk into the kitchen, and make my lunch, sneaking the cyanide in what seems to be a bottle of ibuprofen. I make myself a ham sandwich, with barbecue chips, and a bottle of water. I put it all in a brown paper bag. I write my name on it with a red sharpie. I will put my lunch in the fridge where everyone put their lunches, then I will make up an excuse to go to it, at that time I will locate Mr.Ward's lunch and slip the cyanide into his food.
I walk back into my room and change into a green blouse and a black pencil skirt, with the same heels I wore yesterday. I don't do much to my hair, and do my makeup the same. I check the time and see that I have 15 more minutes till I need to be in the lobby. I find a purse that the legion has left for me by the door. It contains my driver's license, a wallet with 40 dollars in it, a file containing information on my bank account (which I remove from my purse), my id for my new job, and chap stick in it, nothing special. I grab it and my lunch then head down to the lobby.
I reluctantly take the stairs, I would really rather just take the elevator it would be so much easier but I have my orders. I go as fast as I can down the stairs, nearly knocking down several other early rising people, and receiving rude looks and hand gestures because of that. I'm so relieved when I finally see the ground floor. I look around for Max and see him by the door I wave frantically, and he smiles.
He opens the front door for me and I thank him, and then it occurs to me that I don't know where we are going. "Max where are we having coffee?" I ask curiosity leaching into my voice. He smiles and replies, "Oh no where special, just Mina's Coffee House. It's my favorite place to go, mainly because it's open really early and it's a coffee shop inside of a small book store." I smile it sounds nice, I wonder if there really is someone named Mina that owns the shop. "It sounds wonderful." I responded cheerfully.
We start walking into what I might describe as not the nicest part of town, but I kind of like it.I don't feel nervous, because with my training and abilities I could take on pretty much anyone and win. I love the secretive shops and homes tucked away in dark corners of alleyways, it reminds me of the hallway from the arena to the lunch room, except less dark and gloomy. No one here seems to be a stranger to Max which makes me slightly suspicious, why would he know all of these people, and is there really a coffee shop. That last thought makes me shudder.
All of a sudden we turn left and of of the main road into a dark alley way. Max smiles and beckons me forward, I follow but keep my guard up. He opens a door with chipped red paint on it that squeaks when he does so. I prepare to drop my lunch and purse as I walk towards the door, pretending that I don't sense anything wrong. I smile and thank him for holding the door for me, when I look in all I see is darkness. He kicks my back hard, and I fall, I catch myself roll over and spin around punching him on the jaw hard. He groans and goes to hit me so I grab his wrist and flip him onto the concrete. When he lands his back makes the most terrible cracking noise, and he blacks out.
Should I kill him? He works where I live, he might try it again if I let him live. I don't want to blow my cover by killing him yet either. Then it hits me I'll call the cops, it was self defense. I pull out the legion issued phone and dial 9-1-1. I force myself to start crying, so as to make it seem more authentic. "What is the emergency?" asks a cop over the phone. "The receptionist at my apartment tried to jump me I used martial arts to knock him out, I'm at the corner of Randolph and burm...burmont." I stutter when giving my answer. "We are on our way miss."
I smile, it's almost too easy. I put on more water works as the cop car pulls up. "You can calm down miss, it's all right. Just show me where he is." I nod and sob. I walk shakily towards Max's lifeless carcass. Considering how loud that snap was he might not even be alive, I hadn't thought about that. "Miss could you tell me the whole story please." Asked the unnamed cop as crouched over Max.
"Yes, His name is Max. I moved into my apartment yesterday, he was working the lobby and he asked if I wanted to go have coffee early the next morning. I said yes. He said it was some local place called Mina's coffee shop. He was waiting for me in lobby this morning. I just moved so I followed him and he took me this way, I thought it was a short cut. Then we turned onto this street and he opened that very red door. I go to go in and he kicked me hard in the back. He wasn't aware that I know martial arts. I'm afraid that he got more hurt than intended, I just wanted to knock him out, will he be okay?" I say making sure that tears are streaming down my face continuously, and that my voice broke occasionally. He gives me a sympathetic look, and nods.
"He still has a pulse but he may be paralyzed from the neck down from now on. Since it was self defense you shouldn't get in any trouble. You don't need to worry about him being anywhere near you, I would suggest a restraining order. I also say that we find out what is behind the red door." The officer informs me. I am really curious about what is behind the red door, it could give me information as to why he attacked me.
"I do want to find out why he jumped me. I guess I will go with you." I say. He just nods and gets up. He walks in the door with his gun raised, I don't feel nervous why should I feel nervous. I am completely disappointed when I find out that behind the door is just a dark room with a chair in the middle, but there is another door in the room it shows promise. I walk straight over to the door and try opening it, it's locked but that doesn't phase me. The officer on the other hand gives me a horrified look, I ignore it and kick down the door. It barely hurts my foot and the door crashes on to the ground with a bang.
The officer rushes past me, probably to stop me from doing anything else crazy. Which in reality is ridiculous, but I see how it would make sense to anyone else. Ahead of us is a dark hallway which looks like it has never been cleaned. There are several rooms are off the hallway, I enter the first one I come to.I try opening this door and once again it's locked, I let him handle it this time even if it annoys me to death. He just shoots the handle off, I think that kicking down the door is much more dramatic. It is a small office, with a computer, and filing cabinet. I walk over to the computer, which someone is still signed into. The document pulled up has information on the United States government. It also had information on me, not real information just the information the legion gave me, so he was attacking me because of my fake job.
I gesture to the generic officer, to come and look at it. He shakes his head and mumbles something along the lines of terrorist group. Then it occurs to me that it couldn't been just Max, didn't there have to be someone else here, and we weren't exactly quiet. I straighten up and decide how to break the news to the officer. "He couldn't have run the group himself." I whisper making my eyes go wide even though I wasn't scared. He immediately starts whispering real fast into his walkie talkie, I suppose he is calling for backup.
