Chapter 22:

((Carter's Point of View))

Everything had gone back to the way it was before. Well almost. Fay has me under constant watch, making sure that I'm not sneaking off to do drugs or anything. For the most part, I'm trying not too. There are some parts of the day that I can't help but sneak off to do something. She knows about it. She won't say anything about it but I know that she disapproves.

Fay is trying as hard as she can to understand what I am going through. But it's hard for her. Just like it's hard for me to think of what she has gone through.

We work through it though. Things have gotten better between us. That's the way I want to keep it. Those days without her had been to hell. And I certainly don't want a repeat of that.

She had gotten closer to Dr. Chanaway. She hadn't told him word for word what had happened to her yet, she hasn't even told me that. But I feel like she's close. Fay see's that he isn't out to hurt her. He wants to help her. Just like I do, I hate to admit it, but it's true.

"Carter?" she asks one morning. She's half asleep and staring at me with slightly opened eyes. Fay isn't exactly what you would call a morning person.

"Yeah?"

"Why don't you come back to bed?" she asks. "I know you hardly slept all night."

I sighed. It was true. I had taken sleeping pills, but I just couln't sleep. Something kept me up. Like that sinking feeling you get in your chest. The feeling that you are about to recieve bad news. Silly worries like that had disrupted my sleep.

I climbed back into bed with her. She instantly molded herself to my body. I wrapped my arms tightly around her. Soon I had managed to drift off into an uncomfortable sleep.

((Fay's Point of View))

I could tell that Carter was off. It was like he had a bad feeling about today or something. He acted to unnerved during breakfast that morning. In fact, he didn't even say a word to me as we got ready for breakfast.

To test my theory I put on the number one song he can't stand- Hollaback Girl. I even started singing and dancing crazily to it. Not a single word came out of his mouth. He didn't even come and shut off the iHome like he had last time.

Something was definately up with him.

Maybe he just hadn't slept well, I thought as I put my jacket on. After all he seemed to wake up as we got into the car. In fact he seemed perfectly normal. We had even started a conversation about the new Hunger Games movie that's supposed to be coming out soon.

"Carter, what was up this morning?" I asked him as we walked to our first period class.

He shrugs. "It was nothing, don't worry about it."

"Tell me." I said, pulling on his hand a little. "I need to know."

He sighs. "Had a bad dream and over reacted a little it was no big deal."

I knew he was lying. Though I don't understand his reasons.

((Carter's Point of View))

After lunch sometime Fay and I were called to the front office. At first we didn't think anything of it. We were called to the office on a daily basis since we had to see the counseler twice a day. Not to mention the nurse three times a day.

As soon as we walked into the front office we were given looks of pity. We hadn't recieved those since the first week that we had started going to this school. that's when I knew that something was wrong. I instictively pulled Fay closer to me. I could tell by the look on her face that she didn't understand what was going on.

Bett, the front desk lady, said. "The principle would like to see you."

We go into the principle's office to find that Dr. Chanaway is sitting on the couch. Both of them have a grave expression on their face.

"I'll leave you to tell them." the principle says. She stands up and leaves the room with one last look at us.

"Guys," Dr. Chanaway starts with a heavy sigh full of worry.

"What's going on?" I asked.

He looks down. "The guys that had ran the.........home that Fay had previously lived in.....have been recently spotted at a bar one town over."

Fay instantly turns and hides her face in my chest. Her whole body is completely tense with fear. I could tell that she was holding back tears. All I could do was rub her back gently as he gave us more information on what's going on.

"You two and Cindy shall be smuggled out of town tonight by a few indisguise FBI agents and taken three counties over. There you will be kept until it is either deemed safe for you guys to come home or they have caught the men." he explains to us.

This is when Fay started crying. "Please tell me this isn't happening." she sobs into my chest.

I hold her close and extremely tight-not so tight that I am suffocating her though. "I wish more then anything that I could."
