When the father came home that day he brought home a bunch of pretty shells he found near
the lake, and the next day the 2 older sisters were engaged in stringing the shells beads
together. Oochigeaskw of course was not included into their activity, and she decided that it
was time for her to see if she can glimpse a sight of the lucky one. Having no cloth beyond a
few rags, and knowing that she would get nothing from her sisters, she went to the woods and
got herself a few birch bark. She made herself a dress and leggings of this, and decorated or
by scraping figures on the bark. Then she found her father's old moccasins, stiff with age,
soaked them with water so they could become more flexible enough to wear. Finally she
asked her sisters for a few of the wampun jewelry they were making. While the eldest cussed
her and put her down, the second sister felt bad and and gave some of the beading jewelry.
