It had been some months after Abe's death.

I felt empty inside. My parents didn't ask how I was, or if I needed help, all they asked was if I had studied for the final exams.

Some caring parents I had.

I picked my phone up and flipped it open.

3 new texts from Jake flared up on the screen.

"Come over."

"I need you to,"

"Today."

I sighed. As well as being grounded for the rest of my life by my parents for NO REASON at all, I had had to study for my exams.

But this was Jacob. The boy who I met in Kindy and been best friends with since, well forever.

I swallowed my doubts, and slipped out of my room to the porch.

~~

"What do you mean, you're cleaning Abe's house out?" I ask.

"Dad said." Jake answered in a monotone.

I'd only just found out how he'd been interrogated by the police.

The laughing, joyful boy I knew was now an empty eyed zombie.

"Jake, are you fine? Is you dad good with me coming alone?" I ask.

"Yes. No. I don't care." he answered.

I sighed.

"You know, Abe's last words....why aren't we doing what he said?" I asked Jake nervously.

Jake's expressionless face narrowed into something between anger and sadness.

"It's just a bunch of bullcrap. Means nothing." he muttered, making to move away.

I grabbed Jake's arm.

"Jake, you don't mean that! Those stories he told us, are real!"

"No, they're not." he growled.

"Jake, please. I know you grandfather well, and I don't think that he'd lie to us!"

"Well it turns out that you're the one filled with craziness not me."

"Jake, do you even know what you're saying?!"

Jake closed his eyes and sighed.

"I'm sorry, Vic, it's just I miss him. So much."

"So do I." I answer, giving him a hug.

"Hey, you two ready?" Frank asked, poking his head out.

"Yeah." we answer.

"Cool. Jump in the car and we're off."

"'Kay," I reply, opening the door of Jake's car and sliding inside.

~~

I stood in Abe's living room.

"Jake look there's the photos of the peculiars!"

"You can keep them."

"Don't you want them?" I ask him.

"No."

"Fine then." I reply.

Everything's changed.

I sighed and walked out.
