patrick could remember the day that he saw color. it was a cloudy day; the rain being held captive in the clouds was threatening to cascade down in sheets at any moment.
it was a good day, in patrick's extremely unwanted opinion.
he was just in his local bookstore when it happened. he was browsing through some ratty books when he started to notice all of the dull colors. at first, he didn't really realize that he was seeing colors. all of the books were so old that their colors had all faded. but, he held the book in his hand and inspected it carefully. he blinked a couple of times before he realized that it wasn't a silver gray, it was what people had known as the color yellow!
he looked around, excitement coursing through his veins, eagerly awaiting to see if anyone had shown any signs of seeing color for the first time.

"holy shtit!" he heard a young teenage boys voice call out.

patrick's head jumped towards the music section, where he had heard the voice.
he walked over there slowly and turned the corner of the shelf to see a boy looking at a bright purple record resting on a record player.

"d-do you thee this?" the boy pointed towards the record, seeming bewildered.

patrick stared at the record.
"oh my god. oh god, yes i see it! it's purple! it's purple!" patrick almost yelled.

the boy stood there. he stood there for a good minute while patrick freaked out.
"wait... this is.. your first time to see color......" he said, barely above a whisper.

"uh, um, hello soulmate?" patrick spoke to, who he later found out the boy's name, joe.

~ flash forward 6 years ~

patrick and joe's relationship soon blossomed after their encounter. of course, if their relationship hadn't of blossomed, they'dve had to go to the courtroom to reset their colors. (this happens on rare occasions, though) they've never been more happier in their lives. everything was seemingly perfect.

on this particular night, their band, Fall Out Boy, was playing a show. they had just released their debut album, Infinity On High, months before. this was just a regular show.
the air was thick with the music surrounding. the lights were bright. the screams from the fans were loud. everything was buzzing.

everything was making patrick feel nostalgic, too. andy had been rocking out harder that night at his drum set, just like the old days. pete's bright purple skinny jeans were the same color as the bright purple record joe had been looking at when they first met. joe was somehow wearing the same shirt he wore when he and patrick met.

"i sang the blues and swallowed them too" patrick belted out as joe strummed the last chord.
sweat was dripping off of everyone. the exhilaration of the show was getting to people's heads. fans screamed even louder than before.

joe, before they all walked off the stage and said goodbye to the fans, decided to jump off of the platform and play an extra measure of the song.
he had a perfect landing and he played the measure even more perfect.

but, he kept walking forward with his eyes closed, still playing on.

"JOE," a chorus of yells came from everyone. pete had even started running to him to get him to stop.
all of the bodyguards were trying to get past the crowd. yet, it was too late.
joe's head fell face forward onto the bar separating the crowd from the band. to be more specific, his head hid the edge of it and his body formed into the letter "U"

the half of the body guards were calling 911 while the other half tried to evacuate the stadium.

the last thing patrick saw before falling to the ground in shock was pete's purple pants fading to gray.
