Elias Keen shifted through the papers on his desk. The anonymous tip was somewhere in the pile. Something wasn't right. Though the tip said they'd find Gaspar on the ship, they'd only found contraband. It was too much of a coincidence.
He'd gotten reports that The Crimson Queen was floating near Portugal, so the tip saying that he was aboard the merchant ship must have been a set up. Whoever sent it knew what was on that ship, and baited him with Gaspar to find it.
There it was; the yellowish, old parchment with fine, cursive, black writing. It left yellow smudges on his fingers, dust from its age that floated into the air when he blew on it.

There was no signature front or back, no lingering hairs, and only the scent of the ocean gave any indication of the letter's origins. Elias huffed out a sigh of frustration and leaned back in his chair. Before giving up for the night, he lifted the letter up once more, up against the candle on his desk and stopped.
Behind the cursive, behind the words were two large letters, hard to make out. With sudden hope, he pulled out a knife and slowly split the tip in half. With delicate fingers he unpeeled the first layer of paper. The thin, near transparent slip held two black, cursive Initials.

Elias' anger fumed. With great restraint he set the letter down gently and leaned back once again, blowing out the anger through his nose. Gaspar had bribed his way into the highest ranking officers and just to get a letter through. His nails left bloody, crescent moons on the palms of his hands as he stood up and left his room.
I'd hate to inform you of how badly you perform your occupations, but I mustn't keep this secret any longer.
On October 17th, you will find a ship traveling along the North Atlantic Drift on its way to England. On said ship, you will find contraband worth thousands, being sold by yours truly Roger Ridout who will be acting Captain under the alias Charles Ridow. I heard he's been on your Most Wanted list for a while and thought I'd kill two birds with one stone and give Her Majesty a birthday gift.
Oh, how I hope she enjoys his capture. It took a while to get this letter to whoever is reading this, but even the expensive bribing was worth it, I think. How I wish I could see his face when you find the contraband under the main deck.
Nevertheless, tell her Majesty I wish her a Happy Birthday, and hope she still remembers me from when we were young.
