FOR THE REST OF THE NIGHT, ALL I COULD THINK ABOUT WAS LYLA. Even with Miles attempting to flirt with me. He must have noticed that I was holding him at arm's length, because by the time we're nearing the row of houses my aunt and uncle live on, he doesn't bother anymore.
"I hope you had fun tonight." He says when we're standing at the door. "I promise the parties here aren't usually this boring."
I leaned against the railing. "It's fine, I believe you."
He bites his lip before he speaks again. "Are you free this Friday? We can have our date thing." Quickly, he realizes he made a wrong word choice because he stammers quickly in attempt to recover.
"I understand what you meant, it's cool." I couldn't help but laugh at his nervousness. "But goodnight, I don't want you staying out too late."
I reach into my pocket and pull out my house key, as I'm opening the door, I feel his hand on mine. "Let me." He says, as he twists the lock and opens the door for me.
I can hear the TV from the living room, and the chatter of Aunt Jane and Uncle Peter talking. They quickly turn to see both me and Miles, and just from the smile on their faces I know exactly what they're thinking.
I bit my lip nervously and turn to look at him, seeing that he isn't in the slightest inconvenienced that he just met my family. "Thanks, Miles." I whisper. "Get home safely."
"Yeah, I'll see you tomorrow." He nods.
When he's gone, I walk in and close the door behind me. They sure don't waste time either, because before I can turn around they've already made up the scenario in their head that I'm dating Miles and plan on marrying him. I don't correct them or say he's merely a friend, because I'm definitely sure they'll pass this along to my parents, which has more positives than negatives, sadly.
After I shower and change into an oversized t-shirt, I sink down into the plain white sheets of my bed and scroll through my phone until I start to feel like being conscious is no longer worth the effort.

yeah, thanks for checking. hope you made it back in one pieceAs soon as I press send, my phone rings, and it's a phone call from Luca. Even if I am tired, I don't hesitate to answer. I press the phone to my ear, and as soon as I hear Luca's voice, I'm flooded with a sort of warmth only he can provide.
"Haven't heard from you all day," He says. "I'm starting to think you've replaced me."
"Impossible." I respond. "Besides, you don't go down without a fight."
I can just see him smirking on the other end. "You know me so well."
He asks me what I've been up to, and I tell him everything. I tell him about the party, I tell him about Miles, and I tell him about Lyla. It feels like a weight has been lifted off me, honestly. Usually when I'm in a situation like this, I immediately tell Luca, and he either judges me or supports me in them. But since we're not around each other 24/7 like we used to be, there's a setback. After catching him up on my now eventful life, he lets out a sigh.
"I leave your ass alone for not even forty eight hours and you're already shacking it up with two people." He says jokingly. "Maybe it's right what they say about bisexuals, they can't make up their minds."
I roll my eyes, as if he can see me. "I'm not shacking up with anybody. I just met them. And yeah, Miles is nice, but you should have seen this Lyla girl. It's like she's not even human. She's so —"
