HALFWAY THROUGH TWILIGHT, I COME TO TWO CONCLUSIONS ABOUT IT: KRISTEN STEWART'S ACTING IS CRINGE WORTHY, AND THE MOVIE IN GENERAL SHOULDN'T HAVE BEEN AS HUGE AS IT WAS — PERHAPS EVEN CREATED. Cassidy agrees and announces that Mean Girls is next on the list.

"Is it bad that I think this movie is incredibly overrated?" I ask as she moves the mouse on the Netflix homepage and clicks on Mean Girls.

"You don't like it?" She asks, then quickly proceeds to give me a look of disapproval. "That's got to be a crime against humanity."

"I feel like I would like it more if it weren't so hyped, you know?" I say. "Like, if people weren't so obsessed with it and quoting it on every form of social media."

She's quiet, almost as if she's contemplating on picking a different movie, but then says "Oh, well, we're still watching it." I roll my eyes in response, and she smirks.

As she settles back into a comfortable position, she speaks again in a monotonous tone. "You can spend the entire time on your phone, I don't care. You're just a boring whore."

My jaw drops at her insult, and I turn to look at her, only to see a smug grin on her face before it quickly turns into a serious expression.

"Wait — you're cool with rude jokes, right?" She asks me genuinely. "Because I've been waiting crazy long for that part of our friendship to start, and if not, I'm going to be really bummed out."

I can't fight the smile from forming on my face at her rambling, but she seems desperate for an answer.

"I'm cool with it, Cass." I answer, purposely calling her by a nickname to further show my comfort.

She gasps and quickly pulls me into a bear hug. As she's smothering me, she begins to gush about how much this means to her and how long she's waited to officially stamp 'friend' on our relationship.

"Glad I could make your day better." I mutter from my uncomfortable position, which she soon lets me out of.

"Alright, friend." She says slyly. "Time to give you a play-by-play on a cult classic."

The movie begins and she gives me a brief explanation on every character by order of first appearance. She even then goes as far as to relate me to Cady, since I'm the new girl, and her and Miles as Regina and Gretchen, with Miles being both Gretchen and Karen because "depending on the day, he can be tolerable or really fucking stupid".

Halfway through the movie, which I only paid attention to because it would pass the time, my phone rings. I ignore it, thinking that it's my parents or my aunt and uncle. But they persist, and call three more times.

"God, either answer that thing or turn it off." Cassidy whines, her complaints muffled by the popcorn she had shoved in her mouth a few seconds prior.

"Alright, alright." I say, then force myself to my feet and away from the living room and into the kitchen so I don't interrupt Cassidy's viewing experience.

From the time it took me to get up and move to the kitchen, the call went to voicemail. So when I look at the screen for the first time, I see that instead of my parents or my aunt and uncle calling, it was Lyla instead; which left me confused because she never called me. Our interactions were always face to face or through text. But nonetheless, I call her back.

It rings for a few seconds before she picks up, and there's a brief moment of silence before she speaks.

"Hey." She says calmly.

"Uh, hey." I respond uneasily. "You called?"

"Right — uh, this is going to sound a little weird, but can you come get me? I'm stuck in a situation." She goes on to explain. "I'll tell you everything when you get here. Just, please?"
