Christmas in Hogwarts

{A.N: I know, another AU; but I really wanted to read a Simon and Baz in Hogwarts fic, so here's something.}

I was in my room, looking at the window in front of my bed. I haven't slept all night, listening to the rain. Usually when I was feeling bad or had a lot in my mind I would go and sit next to the Whomping Willow, but it was 7:25 am, and freezing, so I decided to go and have breakfast.

I went downstairs and found the fireplace on. I loved that about the Gryffindor common room, it was the coziest place in the world. Well, for me it was the only cozy place in the world because of my homeless situation and everything. Obviously I could always go to Penny's house in the summer, but in the Christmas time I would rather stay here with most of the Great Hall and the grounds for myself.

But when I got there I realized that I wasn't so alone. Usually there are only a few people on the Christmas break in Hogwarts, and I recognized them by now. So when I found Basilton Grimm-Pitch sitting at the Slytherin table I could feel my heart drop out. Why was he here? This was a place for students who just didn't want to go home, mostly because they didn't have a place to call home in the first place.

But he was a Pitch. He had a home, a big fancy one, actually. What was he doing here...? Maybe he was plotting. I've heard that his father was a Death Eater, and I wouldn't be surprised if he was one too... He was always so mean and had a permanent sneer on his face.

I went to sit at the other side of the room, still looking at him. Now I wouldn't be able to have a peaceful Christmas. Not with Baz wandering around the castle, planning how to kill the magic world. Ok, maybe not kill it, but plot against it. Damn Baz... because of him I wasn't even capable of finishing my cherry scones. I needed to know what he was doing here.
So when he got up from the table, I followed him. And kept following him, even when he left the castle and started walking under the rain. I just followed.

---o---

-What are you doing here? -I said. We were in the Forbidden Forest by now and he hasn't have notice me yet. At least the rain had stopped.

-Snow. Why are you following me? -He turned around, a grim smirk on his face.

-I asked something first. –I replied, crossing my arms trying my best to seem intimidating, but the height difference between us was still there to prove that I couldn't.

I heard a noise coming from the forest and suddenly a creature came from the shadows. I was ready to take out my wand when Baz pull my arm.

-No, he isn't dangerous. –I didn't understand what was happening. One moment I was following a potential Death Eater and the other I was beside a magic creature lover. Baz started to scratch the giant bird's neck. –It's an hippogriff, in case you forgot the entire Care of Magical Creatures class last year, which I assume you did.

-Basil...Baz; I don't understand. What are you doing here? –I sighed.

-Why do you care so fucking much, Snow?  -He was sneering, and raised his voice with each word.-Why do you keep following me? I just want... I just want to be alone. Just go, please...

Never, in the six years we've been together in school I've never seen Basilton Grimm-Pitch cry. I've never seen him loose control of his emotions in any way. And thank God, because I realized that for some reason I hated it.

-Hey, I'm sorry. I can... leave if you want me to. Just don't do that -He gave me an inquisitive look.- Cry, I mean. Stop it.

He almost smiled. –You are such a child... No, i'm sorry. You can stay if you want to. I just came here to calm myself down; I couldn't sleep last night.

-Me neither. –I smiled at him. He didn't looked so much like a potential Death Eater after all. He just seemed... lost. –We could... you know, only if you want to, because maybe you are tired or just want to be alone or-

-What is it, Snow? –He interrupted me.

-We could go eat some cherry scones and just hang out... I mean, it's Christmas after all... you don't have to be alone, you know? You can never be completely alone in Hogwarts...

I looked up and realized that Baz was staring at me. And he wasn't serious, or angry, or laughing at me like the idea of us was a joke. He wasn't even sneering.

He was smiling.

-I would love to spend Christmas with you, Simon.

And we walked back to the castle, side by side. It was freezing, and the smell of trees and dirt after rain was impregnated everywhere. When we were entering the Great Hall I turned to Baz.

-I didn't think you actually knew that my name is Simon.-He frowned.-Before, in the Forest, you called me Simon.

He gave me a side grin.

–No I didn't.

That was the first say of snow of the year, and also the coldest. But we didn't care, because we had magic, and cherry scones.
And each other.
