"A little more... a little more... just a little more..." Dean instructed as the waiter poured salt onto his mound of waffle fries. "And.... that's perfect, thanks." He reached forward and grabbed two fries, shoving them both into his mouth. The taste was indescribably perfect, so good that Dean kind of made an embarrassing noise with his mouth while rolling his eyes back in his head and had to check to see if Cas was weirded out enough yet to leave.
But when he looked up, he noticed Castiel was doing the exact same thing. The thought that they could be so similar made Dean excited. After all, great minds think alike. -But fools rarely differ, his subconscious added mockingly. Dean ignored himself and finished a few more fries before starting up some conversation.
"So, uh, I was thinking, y'know, about the homework, and I'm kind of having problems with numbers 1-27?"
Cas put down a fry he was about to bite into. He chuckled slightly and looked at Dean up and down, astonished. "You mean the whole assignment?"
Dean looked down at his plate as to pretend to be ashamed and laughed in spite of himself. "Yeah, I guess so. Mr. Ketch isn't very descriptive when it comes to teaching... well, anything."
Cas laughed and picked up his cheeseburger, cringing when the ketchup squeezed onto his thumb, and sighed, putting his burger back down to wipe off his hands. He then picked his burger back up (with just the tips of his fingers), and, with a determined look on his face, took a bite without getting more ketchup on his hands. He finished and spoke up, "I've already completed it, so I can just give you my answers. But that probably won't help you, so I can teach you if you want."
"You mean like a tutor?" Dean took a long sip of his milkshake. He didn't like the idea of a tutor, because that meant Cas might come over, and if Cas came over, he could find the journal and read what Dean had written about him. Also, he kind of felt like Cas would look at him differently once he got to Dean's- run-down, to put it nicely - house on the bad part of town. But then again, Castiel would be coming to Dean's house!
"We don't have to call it that. I could just be helping you out with any problems you have, and in return you could do the same for me," Cas said easily. A smile lingered on his lips.
At least he doesn't think I'm too dumb to understand anything, Dean thought, relieved. "That sounds great," Dean managed to squeak out while trying to remain calm over the fact that he and Cas would hang out more often. He didn't want to come off in a needy or weird way, so he tried to play it cool. "Actually, did you bring your textbook with you? I was hoping you could help me here. I've got mine."
Cas grinned, pulling out his textbook for earth science. "You asked me on the phone, remember? I wouldn't forget."
Dean was about to respond when the door chimed behind their booth, and he turned around to see who walked in. To his surprise, Dean was met with a head of fiery red hair and a mischievous smile. He couldn't wipe the grin off of his face at the sight of his best friend, Charlie Bradbury. "Hey, Charles!" Dean called, and waved her over when she looked his way.
She practically ran to their booth. "Deano! I haven't seen you in like a week!" She wrapped her arms around him quite awkwardly; it's hard to hug someone when they're sitting down, Dean noted. Then, Charlie let go for a brief minute, before narrowing her eyes at Dean. "Never ignore me for that long again. I practically died!" Charlie went back to hugging Dean in the same awkward position as he laughed and hugged her back.
