The Seeker

Chapter 2; Hide

                       I turn around and run as fast as I could. "I CANT OUT RUN THIS THING!" I shouted. I had no where to go, the only thing I could do was try to hide.

I dove behind the nearest tree. I could hear this thing coming up behind me fast, I look around for anything to help me hide, nothing, only snow and trees. Then I looked down at my feet, the snow was 3 inches from my knees. I quickly drop to the ground and bury myself.

My face was so cold, the only thing I could do was wait. Seconds later I saw a little ray of light lighting up the ground where I was hiding. It was scanning my surroundings. It's looking for me. I see the light scan left and right. Then it stopped right on top of where I was hiding.

I closed my eyes expecting to be pulled from the snow.

My eyes reopen as I heard wolves howling to my left. The light quickly looked in the direction of the noise. I could hear it take off, it left to go find the wolves.

I waited a good three minutes before I emerged from the snow. I quickly scanned the area. "No lights... it. It's gone!" I stand up. "The wolves sounded far away." I couldn't even see the light when I looked to my left. 

I leaned over and threw up behind the tree. I saw my life flash before my eyes. I stood up straight cleaning my mouth with my sleeve. 

"I still have to find Kaldr." I start to walk when I realize, I don't know where I am going. My tracks were completely gone, I can't remember what direction my tent was. I started to panic,  "I. I'm going to die out here." I crouched down to the ground holding my head like I was crazy. "No one is going to find me, I'm not going to find my way out." 

I sat there for a minute before I snapped out of it. "If I sit here I'm going to die for sure." I stood back up. I start walking in the opposite direction that thing went.

The storm was still falling hard, I look at my watch that I left on. "Its only 12:11pm... For fuck sake! its still a long time before morning comes." I sighed and continued to walk. 

I checked all around me every 15 seconds. I was shaking so much, "Its so cold out here." I mumbled. 

I decided to reach into my right pocket and pull out my flashlight. I flick it on. I jumped back ten feet and screamed. I just sat there as I watched a deer take off running from me.

"FUCKING DEER!" I yelled in anger. I sat there holding my chest for a minute. I looked back up and kept moving forward.

I was so far in the forest now, I could barely continue walking. I breathed heavily as I blew in my hands to try and keep me warm.

I jolted upward, looked behind me and fell backwards. Another screech, I couldn't see a thing though. I didn't know what to do I sat there looking around to see if I could see something, nothing. No light anywhere to be seen near me, the sound still sounded far away. I slowly stood up again and walked backwards away from the sound, my eyes never left the spot where I heard the screech come from.

"It must have caught something else." I said thankfully, as I turned back and started walking again I started getting confused. "Why is this thing seeking for pray and killing them. Its not like it eats it anyway." 

I gasped when I see a log cabin in the middle of the woods, "What the hell is this doing here?" I asked, I started getting nervous, "A log cabin in the middle of no where?"

I slowly make my way to the front door and creek it open, I peak inside to see a table, a chair and a fire place that looks like it hasn't been used in years.

I close the door behind me and locked with this flimsy looking latch thing. I sit down in the corner of the room. "At least its kinda blocking out the cold! Its warmer in here than out there." I go back to thinking about why its killing everything that moves or makes noise.

"Is it killing for sport?" I sighed, "Maybe that's the only thing it knows how to do." 

I decided to wait the night out in here and hope to god that thing doesn't find me. I eventually ended up resting my eyes for a little bit.

Right before I fell asleep I sat straight up. "Somethings clawing at the door." I whispered to myself, I slowly got up and picked up a log peace that was rotten from sitting there for so long.

I stood in front of the the door, waiting. I heard something to the left of the cabin running through the snow. It was running away from me, until all I could hear was the storm outside, the scratching stopped. 

I noticed there was a crack in the door near the bottom. I put the log to the side and got down on my knees. I looked through the small hole.

I held my mouth shut so I wouldn't scream and backed away from the door as fast as I could. 

I could see the light scanning the ground outside the cabin. It was about eight trees away from me. I hold my breath trying not to make any noise.

I start hyperventilating when I could see the light getting bigger. "Its coming my way." I said in a shaky voice. 

It stopped. right in front of the door.

I screamed as soon as I heard it slamming into the wooden door trying to break it down! "GO AWAY! LEAVE ME ALOOOOONE!"
