"Where were you?"

Mom asked again, standing with a bit more authority than she had done in a very long time. I glanced to Ms. Dugley behind where mom was standing to only see her smirking.

A nervous chuckle left my mouth as mom now stood right in front of me, her blue eyes piercing into mine.
"Well, you see, Rachel needed-"
"I phoned her mother to check but she said you weren't there," she cut me off. I was honestly terrified. Mom had never been this harsh but then again she was usually always drunk or hungover.

I guess she stopped drinking when she got a call from her...

Mom backed away slightly as I let out a sigh, not ready to tell the truth but I knew I had too. I couldn't just keep this information away from her forever: she is Luke's mother too.

"Fine," I let a hand slip through my hair as I sniffles, the crying from earlier still fresh.

"Can we sit, please?"

"I just want to know what is going on in my daughters life, that's all," mom mumbled as she hugged me then let me go so we could take a seat.

"Well, what did ma'am tell you first?" I started, motioning towards my principal.

"I told her that you and that Mr. Hemmings were together too much to just be having a normal teacher/student relationship: I assume it is something the police should handle," that awefully snobby voice cut in when my mom was about to speak. I rolled my eyes and looked to my mother only to see her giving me a warning look before she nodded.

"Well, when you make an assumption it only makes an ass out of you and me," I replied back with a hint of sarcasm.

I couldn't contain the laugh that escaped my mouth when I saw her stand up and pull out a stick from her bag that had no ending, just like Mary Poppins'.

"You have no manners at all young lady."

"You're right, I don't, but you don't see me walking up to door steps and giving out false information or do you?" I shot at her only to see her face go completely red yet she sat back down with a scowl glued to her face.

Thought so...

"Well, what else did she say?" I asked my mom politely.

She gave me a quizzical look before looking down at her hands when she answered.

"She - she said that you told her that this man is your brother." Mom's head lifted, a layer of tears covering her eyes. For a moment there I saw hope in her eyes but that was all erased when her face hardened.

"It isn't true! He died a long time ago, when your father left. He is gone, my little Lukey is gone!" That is when she butted into tears. Is there going to be tears in every freaking chapter?

"Aha! I told you!" Ma'am stood up, me following her actions immediately.

"You know nothing!" I growled at her before I walked over to mom to comfort her.

"He took him and killed him! Kenzy, I miss him!" I grabbed my moms chin in my hand and made her look at me, my motherly senses coming to me like they usually did when she would cry over this, although this time I had other explanations.

"Mom... Mom, he is alive, okay?" I tried saying but she carried on.

I can't do this!
