Harper's POV
After I said me peace to the boys, they wrapped their arms around me in what must have been the greatest hug that has ever been experienced by anyone ever.
I wanted to remain in their arms forever, but sadly the work of an alpha is never done. It only becomes less concentrated for that day. I untangled myself from their embrace after kissing each one on their forehead. I walked back to my desk and picked up where I left off. Going through the complaints and settling the disputes between pack members, as well as returning calls from other alphas. My pack was one of the top in the nation, so we were often called for advice or training help with other pack warriors. On occasion, we were even asked to join in an alliance or form a treaty of some sort.
Just as I was making some progress, Barry came bursting into the room. I snarled in his direction and moved in front of my boys.
"Speak!" I ordered, having been scared out of my mind that there was danger outside, Barry needed to stop freaking and start explaining.
"Rouges, a group of them, at our Eastern border. The patrol are guarding, but they don't want to start something they can't finish without your okay. They couldn't get in touch with you, because you were blocking," he explained in a rush.
"Okay. Gather the warriors. Tell them to silently support behind the patrol, but do not engage. Tell the rouges that the alpha is coming," I commanded. I needed to get the boys to safety before anything got started. "Gather the children and pack members that are unable to fight in the meeting hall. Tell them to put the guards up until they hear from me. Aiden, Noah, you go too. I will be back as soon as this is over."
"No, we will stay with you," Noah argued.
"We don't have time for this. You are human. You have seen what the weakest of wolves can do. I will not allow you to be in any danger. Now go!"
I ran down the stairs, shifting once I hit the ground outside the front door. I raced to the border where Barry told me they were and saw a group of at least twenty rouges, now in human form, waiting patiently at the border. They did not appear to be agitated, but still nervous when I arrived.
"Why have you come here?" I asked, without commanding them, but in a firm voice none the less. A man, who appeared to be their leader stepped forward to speak for them all.
"We come from one of the neighboring packs. Our alpha has died and his son taken over. He is a ruthless monster without compassion. He controls us all and offers no support when picking fights with other packs. We are all going to be slaughtered if we are not helped soon. We left as rouges in order to seek an audience with you, Alpha Female. Will you help us gain control over our pack and save them from the reckless leader?" the man ended his speech and knelt on the ground with neck exposed to me. The rest of their group followed suit.
"Rise brave ones. You have had a hard time. We will discuss this further inside pack lands. Come," I responded to their request with the same seriousness as they had delivered it.
I needed more details to know exactly what would need to happen, but from what they had already told me, we would be going to take over their pack soon.
Noah's POV
Aiden and I were in the meeting hall with the rest of the pack members that were unable to fight. Harper was outside, protecting us all from whatever danger was perceived. I was so tired of being stuck in this wheelchair and I just wanted to be able to do things again. As I am now, I couldn't even stand on my own.
After about half an hour went by, Barry came to let all of us out of the meeting hall telling us that the danger had passed and we were safe.
We went to Harper's office, because that was the place where we were most likely to find her. She was always working, trying to do everything for everyone. She was amazing like that. She claimed that she was closed off, but her heart was so big. Everyone knew how much she cared for all of her pack members.
We opened the door to her office without knocking. We were her mates. Why would we need to?
Sitting in the chairs in front of her desk was a man we did not recognize as one of the pack. He had to be one of the rouges that was at our border. We didn't know why he was here, but Harper seemed at ease with him here so he wasn't a danger to her or us.
We went over to where we usually sat and resumed the homework and studying that we were doing before Harper's confession and Barry's announcement. Harper didn't pay us any mind, she was in her alpha mode, but the man couldn't stop staring at us. Eventually Harper sighed and turned to us.
"These are my mates, Noah and Aiden. Noah, Aiden, this is James. He needs our help to rescue the rest of his pack," she explained to all of us.
We nodded at the man to show our acknowledgement of his presence. He did the same but his head was bowed for longer than a normal nod.
"James, what are you wanting to come from this? Who would be the alpha of this pack once we have liberated them?" Harper asked James, going back into alpha mode.
"Actually, we have heard about how you lead your pack, and we were hoping that you would take us under your wing as well."
"I'm honored that your pack thinks so highly of me, but before settling on that option, I would need to know that minds of the rest of your people and to figure out how to combine the territories. We'll figure out the details after we have control of the situation. We need to take control from your alpha before he picks a fight with the wrong pack.
Harper dismissed the man to settle in with the rest of the pack with the promise to continue their strategy meeting in the morning with the rest of her warriors and Barry. Tomorrow was Saturday, so we had a couple of days before we could go back to school.
It was going to be interesting to see how this was going to work. Just from the half hour of being away from Harper before made me and Aiden go crazy with worry.
