“Harry, where are we going?”
“I’m not sure, to the Cornucopia probably.” Harry says, and turns to me. He smirks, then giggles, then turns around again and keeps walking.
“I don’t have any weapons. If we run into the Careers…”
“There are no Careers.”
“What?”
“Only the girls and Niall left, and Niall’s with us. The girls have probably gone and split up by now. We’ve only got seven left now, and five of us are together.”
“Five?”
“Yeah; you, me, Niall, Gale and Prim. Remember?” He taps the side of his head without looking back. I look down at my feet and bite my lip.
“Gale is mad at me.”
“Gale is mad at the world, but he knows he needs us. Prim needs us too, he’s not going to risk her life for his own big-headedness.”
“I guess.”
Harry and I keep walking towards the Cornucopia, alert. I’m nervous as hell, defenceless against whatever decides to try to hurt me. I should trust Harry to help me, but I still can’t shake away my uneasiness.
Harry stops and whistles to the mockingjays above us, and they pick up his tune immediately. Then they sing a new song, and Harry laughs.
“This way babe, Niall’s close.”
We start to run towards the direction of the birdcalls. My legs aren’t as long as Harry’s, and soon he is far ahead of me.
“Harry!” I call to him but it’s no use; he’s too far ahead of me. I take a moment to rest, putting my hands on my knees and breathing deeply.
I hardly have enough time to react when she attacks me.
I fall to the ground, Sparkle’s weight crushing the bones in my arm. I try to scream, but my breathlessness makes me soundless. Her face has gone mad, her eyes pointed in different directions and her smile wide and terribly frightening. Her nose has completely gone away, sliced clean off. She’s holding a skinning knife in one hand, the other holding my throat to the ground. I struggle beneath her but I can’t move.
She says something but it only sounds like babbling. Her face slowly moves towards me, until the tip of my nose is inside the gap where hers once was. Her lips settle on mine.
She’s kissing me?
A sudden pain tells me I’m wrong.
She’s biting my lips, chewing them.
Suddenly she rips her head back, taking a chunk of my bottom lip with her. I scream, finally able to make a sound. I look up at Sparkle, her muscular body sparkling with beads of sweat. She’s chewing the chunk of skin she’s ripped from me.
She swallows it, and grins as her face returns to meet mine.
She is going to eat me alive.
(A/N: I am so sorry for those with a weak stomach, but making Sparkle go mad was really fun. If you didn't get the super subtle hints, Sparkle cut off her own nose and self-cannibalised. She really likes cutting people up, as you probably guessed from the earlier Niall POV.)
