Primrose lays down on the ground at watches me as I make a fire. I smile at her, flashing her a goofy grin. She laughs, and I can't help but laugh too.
"Kate has been gone for a while," Gale says, scooping up water in the bottle from Kate's bag. I stare hard at it. It's the only one we have, and between the four of us it won't be enough.
"She's only been out for a short time mate, it's alright."
"Are you sure? With those sadistic careers running around all of us are screwed."
"We'll all be alright. Just wait a bit."
Gale rolls his eyes at me but I ignore him. He's got a little bit of a temper, and he's impatient. If it weren't for Prim I wouldn't need him here. I try to focus on making the fire but my mind is buzzing. I'm starting to feel a little impatient too, waiting for him to hurry up.
Then I hear it. The mockingjays singing a little song for me. Not the one I had asked Kate to return by, but a song that he and I had agreed upon when he was alone and could meet me. I sing it back to the jays, and soon I hear the reply song. He's not far away, maybe a few yards to the west of us; he made sure they would so we could find each other at the start of the games.
“I’m going to grab some firewood, I’ll be right back,” I say and stand up. Gale nods at me.
“I’m keeping the knife here.”
“Not a problem mate, I’m not going far.”
And I’m not. I hardly walk ten minutes before I see him.
“Niall.”
“Harry.”
We shake hands and laugh for a moment before he hands me four bags of supplies and an axe.
“There’s a sword in one of the bags for Gale, some throwing knives too if any of you need them. Water pouches for all, iodine, some apples, matches; the essentials.”
“Thanks. And the pack?”
“Went back to the Cornucopia to hunt down Bow. Guy’s tough, he almost killed Titan and now he’s got a bounty on his head.”
“They won’t notice the missing supplies?”
“Naw, we’ve got a surplus. They’ll think Keat took them or something. Not a worry mate.”
“Alright.”
“Where’s your little bird?”
“She went hunting. Won’t be back for a bit, but she’s no where near the Cornucopia and I doubt that Keat or Bow will kill her. Bow’s on our side, Keat’s not going to fight anyone.”
“And Louis?”
“He won’t fight her unless he knows I’m close to her. Sick bastard, he just wants to torture me.”
“Do you know why he hates you so much?”
“No clue,” I say, but I do. Havoc found out about it a long time ago, thanks to an inside source. The Capitol may be crazy in the worst ways, but it’s officials are brilliant. They flagged me as a revolutionary from the moment I volunteered as tribute. Maybe it was my zealous support of Everdeen, or my connections with people involved in the uprising- I’m not sure. Whatever clued them in made them consider me as a threat. Havoc had told me they saw Louis as a threat too, and had taken him into custody some time after the reaping. He had been “hijacked”, forcing him to hate me and want to kill me. It’s sad really, he and I could have been good friends and he could have been an asset to the plan.
“I better get back, they’ll be wonderin’ where I ran off to.”
“Did you talk to Liam?”
