Kira's POV

I forgot what a pain it was to clean all day long. Luckily it wasn't as hard since I'd been getting exercise while walking a lot of the way back to Ibitario. It was nine now so I could finally relax. I was hoping that the throbbing headache I'd had all day would go away soon. I made myself dinner and sat down. I wasn't surprised when Simon sat down next to me.

"You still glad to be back?" He asked sarcastically.

"Yeah, this is better than walking nonstop all day." I said, smirking back at him. He only laughed.

"So what's your back story? You've never really talked about it with me." I said. For a moment he seemed to be thinking, but quickly made up his mind.

"Well it's not the most pleasant of stories, but if you really want to know I'll tell you." He said. I smiled and motioned for him continue.

"I wasn't always a slave. I lived in a small town on the border of the DC area. Just so you know, the DC area is the only place left that's run entirely by humans. But anyway, my town was considered a part of that as well. We had a lot of defensive weapons to protect ourselves from vampires, but it wasn't enough. One day they broke through and whoever wasn't killed was forced to become a slave." As he told me all of this he kept his eyes on the table with a solemn look on his face.

"What was it like living in the human world?" I asked. I didn't want to pry, but I was curious to know. He laughed at my question and smiled at me.

"A lot different. I'm not sure how to explain it. We had school and we also had freedoms. I had a family there, a mom, dad, and older brother. I was only thirteen when my town was overrun; my brother was eighteen. I don't have any clue what happened to them. The only thing I can do is hope that they lived, but I don't like to dwell on the past."

I sat there, not sure what to say for a moment.

"Well I can't say I know how you feel. I can't imagine losing the people closest to you. I'm sorry for your loss." I said quietly. He smiled sadly at me.

"What about you? What's your story?"

I stiffened at his question, but quickly relaxed.

"Up until I was nine I lived with a vampire in Flintre, but he was pretty awful. Sam saved me from him because he felt bad for me. After that I lived with Sam for the next seven years until this whole war thing. That's all really." I said, now it was my turn to keep my head down. He chuckled a little, but I wasn't sure why.

"Well I can tell that you aren't ready to tell me, but when you are I'll be right here."

His words took me by surprise and when I looked up he was already looking at me with a gentle smile on his face. Before I could process what was happening I noticed he was leaning in towards me. As he got close my eyes shut and I waited for our lips to meet. My heart was racing, but at the same time it didn't feel right.

I could feel the heat radiating off of him, and just as our lips were about to meet I heard the dining room door slam open. We jerked away from each other and I looked over and saw Oliver glaring at both of us.

His eyes were entirely black.

"I hate to break up whatever was going on, but I need to eat." He said, his eyes shifting to me. He turned around and began to walk away, insinuating that I needed to follow him.

"Bye." I whispered. "Bye Kira."

I left Simon in the other room as I hurried to catch up to Oliver who was already across the living room. I noticed that he seemed to be heading to the library.
