Soft clicks from expensive dress shoes echoed throughout the pristine hall. Sweeney had never been referred to as a smart man. Yes, he was clever, strategic, careful, and powerful. But not smart. His sausage like fingers could barely work a toaster, let alone use the tools in the room he was walking into.
In the old and scorched warehouse he was walking into lay a room with paper white walls and LED lighting. In the center was a operation table, lining the walls were X-RAY light boards, experimentation tables, and beds filled with test subjects. The subjects in the beds groaned and writhed, screaming as they lost their minds or body parts. Their sanity was falling away, being peeled away by the man in the cheap suit from the 90s with a balding head and sinister smile.

"Ugh, what an asshole! You know, if you let me I'd just." Heidi continued to punch her own palm and make unnecessary fighting sounds.
"Yeah, you're the big bad. And have a tendency to call him an ass. Heidi. No, I just... It's weird, I mean, after what happened I just never thought he'd ask me out again."
"Kass, I mean, yeah go on the date, but..." Heidi scrunched up her face and looked away from Kassie. They were seated at a round table for two at a café-type restaurant with an empty stage awaiting a band that would play latter that night. Kassie suddenly wished she had her camera, her friend's face was gently high-lighted by the setting sun through the window.
Kassie shook her head, escaping her thinking, "What?"
"You just... You're always getting into these... relationships. And, yeah, I know. I'm a whore. Well, not really, but that's an argument for later. I just mean, just because you go out with a guy doesn't mean you have to date him."
Kassie stared at Heidi for a moment, setting her jaw. "I thought I really cared about him. I did. Would you rather have me follow your lead and never date anyone I slept with?" Kassie froze as soon as the sentence left her mouth. "I just meant-"
"What you always mean." Heidi snapped, causing a few costumers to glare over at her. "You think you're better than me. What, you actually have lasting relationships, and that makes you better?"
"No-"
"They're not even real relationships. You date broke-ass losers who don't deserve you so you don't have to be alone. I'm 25, I have fucking time to look around and be free. Excuse me if I don't want to end up getting smacked around in an alley because I was too impatient to wait for something great to come along." Heidi snapped. Her outburst caused the whole café to hush and stare at the girls.
Kassie's jaw dropped, "I've had two boyfriends in five years. And you're just jealous because every guy you end up with has the emotional maturity of a five-year-old and you're stuck in some kind of rut because the only thing you've ever committed to is me! And you have to wear pant suits to work. Its all turned you into a vapid whore!" Kassie yelled back.
They stared at each other in seething silence with the entire café in silence. Kassie attempted to hold her face in an angry glare but the longer she stared at Heidi the more her lips curled into a small grin. Heidi's face turned red as she quickly glanced over at the crowd of people staring at the girl. Kassie let out a small giggle and within five seconds both girls were bent over at the waist bursting with laughter and bright red faces.
"We-I-I'm sorry." Heidi said around her laughter at the café patrons. "Sorry." She waved her hand, trying to dismiss their fight.
Kassie wiped tears from under her eyes, "I love you."
Heidi grinned, "I love you too."
Kassie sighed with a smile, glad that was over. Another reason they were such great friends, neither of them took life too seriously.
Kassie pulled a five out of her purse and laid it on the table, "We're leaving." She held up her hand as a very confused manager started her way over to the table. "We're going, sorry, sorry."
Heidi grabbed her purse and the girls tripped out of the café, laughing at themselves the entire way. "Holy shit," Heidi laughed, rubbing tears from under her eyes, "Oh, damn, Kass, you're going to be late."
"Yeah, uh, see you at home?" Kassie asked, stepping backwards. Heidi nodded and waved at her friend, who then turned and jogged down the street before disappearing into the New York crowd. She sighed softly and slipped her purse over her head, walking back to the apartment. She thought about what Kassie said, all the guys she liked certainly were not what anyone would expect her to go out with, but that's just... who she liked. And, yeah, lately she'd been setting the bar pretty low, hadn't gone out on a date in... months. Not a real one anyway, she was always the one to ask. Not that there was anything wrong with that, if Heidi was anything she was strong and independent. She certainly didn't need anyone, but that didn't mean she didn't want anyone.
With a sigh Heidi set into resolve. The next guy she went out with she would actually attempt to... date. Heidi wondered, as she walked, if Kassie would take her accusations seriously. Take a break from all the dating, try and find herself. Heidi laughed at herself, Kassie wasn't going to take anyone's advice, especially not hers.

Matthew's brow furrowed as he read with his fingers about other kidnapping. That had been six this week, the only thing the victims had in common were that they were taken at night between 6-6:30. The only way they were able to count this as serial kidnapping is that they were taken in that time frame. Matt knew that there was more, unpublished. He'd have to get Foggy to read the medical examiners files, and he wasn't quite sure he wanted to get him involved just yet.
He tossed the paper down, knowing what he'd be doing with the rest of his night. The locations were completely random, with no rhyme or reason, but he could at least patrol, he might get lucky, but luck was never his friend.
He picked up the phone, considering calling Kassie and telling her he had to cancel, but he then remember they didn't even have a date yet. Right... he had to call and set up the date. He couldn't lie and say he hadn't thought of getting Karen to set it up for him, but he could imagine Kassie's reaction. Already, within days of knowing her she would not put up with that level of jackassery.
He internally groaned before picking up his phone and holding the home button down. "Call Kassie."
The phone rang. And rang. And rang... "Hey, it's Kassie, leave your complaint after the beep."
He smiled lightly, "Kassie, it's Matt. Uh, I'm free tomorrow night, like I mentioned, if you are. So...uh, call me back."
His face fell and he groaned, resting his forehead on the desk. "Call me back?"
What a... Matthew sighed and dropped his phone on the desk.
"Dude..." Matt lifted his head, Foggy was standing in the door, shaking his head.
"Shut up, Foggy." Matt snapped, standing.
"You going out tonight?" Foggy replied.
"No, did you not hear that voicemail? I'm never going out. Ever." He replied, his voice softly joking.
"That's not what I meant." Foggy said, "But, yeah, you're fucked. Oh, no, wait-"
Matt threw his tie at Foggy, slowly undressing through their jokes. "And, yeah, I'm going out."
"Need me to do anything?" Foggy asked.
"Yeah," Matt pulled on his blazer, ready to return to his apartment. "Do you know any good places to waltz?"
