Cooper was following the Nukkus, and wouldn't take his eyes off of his sister. He never really appreciated having a sister, but now that he thought about it, he was grateful that he was stuck with her. He crept around trees the whole way to the Nukkus' "home". Cooper's house was not in a neighborhood. It was off of a quiet road, surrounded by the trees and nature.

Cooper watched as the Nukkus entered a dark part of the woods. The trees were dead and the atmosphere was cold. Looking at the forest gave Cooper the chills. The Nukkus kept going deeper and deeper into the forest. Cooper shivered as he continued his trek.

After minutes of following the monster, Cooper arrived at the charred ruins of a house. It barely looked like a house, but still had the shape. Cooper watched as the Nukkus took his sister inside, her voice hoarse from screaming. She kicked her legs one last time and then went limp, for she had finally given up. Cooper crept up closer to the house, making as little noise as possible. He carefully navigated his way through the dark forest up to a window in the house. He could just make out the shapes of two families in separate huddles. They were crammed into the corners of what looked like a living room. The only thing left to suggest it was a burnt and tattered couch in the middle of the room. One of the families was his. He watched as the monster dropped his poor sister onto the charcoal covered floor. She crawled over to her ooze covered family. Kathy embraced her in a hug. Cooper knew he had to rescue them soon, as he examined his starving father and shaking brother.

Cooper waited until the monster left, knowing the Nukkus was headed back to the Johns' house to finish preparing its last course.

The black creature left, locking the door but leaving a window open. Cooper climbed in the window, grasping the gun that was stashed in the waistband of his pants.

"Cooper," Kathy whispered as she limped over to her beloved son. She had only been there for a day, but she still looked worn out.

The rest of his family came to greet Cooper. He hugged them all and then voiced his plan.

"We need to get out now," Cooper sternly announced. "We have to go home."

Cooper's head shot up as he heard the front door handle jiggle. The door opened and Cooper watched as the Nukkus walked inside. His gnarly teeth were revealed as the monster made a half-growl, half-screech. He pulled himself up into an offensive stance. The Nukkus had to be at least seven feet tall. He lurched at Cooper. Cooper held up his gun in his shaky hands. Cooper never shot a gun before that. He felt the hot breath on his face. Cooper took one last look into the black pits of eyes, and closed his own. He took a deep breath and pulled the trigger. There was a loud bang and a thud on the ground. Cooper opened one eye to see the monster on the ground. It's body turned into ashes and blew away as a breeze came through the open front door.

Cooper turned around to see Bruce holding Kathy as tears streamed down her face. Kathy got up and hugged her son. They walked over to the other family that was laying on the floor. Cooper recognised the family. He had seen them on the news. It was the Silmen family. The mother was holding her young daughter and resting in her husband's arms. They had been there longer than the Johns.

Cooper heard a groan and looked over to see his father trying to get up. Bruce's legs buckled and he fell to the ground. He hadn't eaten since he was taken. Cooper helped his father up.

Everyone slowly started to get up. Both families were headed home.
