I trotted back to the cabin on the well-worn path. The trails are there mainly, because of the deer. There are many paths, and I have explored every single one of them, so much; that,I knew them like the back of my hand.
Soon, the little redwood cabin I share with my dad came into view. I was home early today because there hardly was any game. Its been scarce for a couple of weeks now.
Sighing, I walked to the back of the cabin. To my left, next to the cabin stands a small storage. Inside are weapons and munition. My dad never mentioned it, but in the storage is also a backpack with emergency supplies in it. I hope we never have to use it. We are safe here, this is our haven. Right in front of our cabin is a big lake. The spring water is crystal clear since it's right in the mountains.
Taking the shoes off my sore feet, I dipped them into the water and relaxed. Its pretty warm for a day in April.
"Ivy"!my father's familiar voice booms through the air."Your home early, no game, today either?"
I get up and face my dad, he is leaning against the back doorway with his arms crossed. Today he lookes really tired, I frown.
"No dad," I sigh."No game today."
He rubs the stubble on this chin with his brows creased."hmm...our supplies are almost gone too. I'm afraid we we have to venture into the Unknown."

********************************
Inside the cabin, I pack only the essentials. A sleeping bag, extra clothes, my dagger, matches---
"Ivy"! My father's hoarse voice cuts threw the air.
"Dad"! I bolt threw the back door.
Outside, my throat hitches. The forest is on fire, Burnt tree branches hit the ground. Everything is on fire. Its not a normal forest fire, even the ground itself seems on fire.
"Ivy", dad groaned.
I averted my gaze from the fire and look at dad. He limped towards me,his face was badly burned.
"Dad! What happened?!" I choked back tears.
"You have to go, they are coming for you.." he whispered."I'll be fine, I promise..."
"Dad, who--whose coming for me" I cried desperately.
"Take the emergency backpack. Hurry, before the fire reaches you. Here, take this, it was your mother's," he puts a silver locket necklace around my neck.
"Dad-- please, come with me!"I sobbed.
"Run, run as free as the fire inside you. Don't ever extinguish it, do it for me, your mother. Run, Ivy run; I love you always." Dad whispered.
"I love you too,"I whispered as tears roll down my face. And with that, I grabbed the backpack and ran. I covered my mouth with my shirt to keep me from inhaling to much smoke. But soon I'm wheezing, my throat felt raw, and my eyes were watering. But I run, dodging tree branches and roots that stuck out of the ground.
Only 80 more meters and I will be outside the forest...
Suddenly my foot caught a branch and I go crashing down. Inhaling sharply, I concentrated on the hot pain in  my ankle. Black spots appeared in my vision. No I can't lose conscious now, the fire will consume me.I struggled to get up but my ankle is twisted in an odd angle.
Suddenly the locket starts to glow, and the fire is moving in towards me. But it stays in a circular globe... as if something is keeping it at bay. Then, I see it. The locket created a shield of some sort around me. The fire is absorbed into the shield, and the scorching heat radiating off towards me. The locket started glowing brighter, and burning hot. All of a sudden, the shield is sucked into it. I cry out in pain, as the heat burned threw out my whole body.
"Help,"I wheeze, the word barely audible. Sorry Dad, I tried I really did....Then everything went black.
